Job Summary

Principal Engineer – Electrical, Malaysia

Our client, a leading international developer and operator of hyperscale data centres, is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their growing team in Johor. This role is critical for ensuring world‑class design, construction, and commissioning of advanced data centre facilities.

About the Role

The Principal Engineer will support the design and construction phases of data centre projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and quality requirements. You will work closely with project managers, design consultants, and contractors to deliver projects to the highest technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist project managers during design and construction phases for site management, quality control, and HSE compliance
• Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to company standards
• Review and approve design consultant work, ensuring completeness and accuracy of engineering calculations
• Communicate with consultants and vendors to achieve required deliverables
• Maintain internal engineering standards, focusing on electrical distribution and protection systems
• Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and final handover activities
• Contribute to internal engineering design and development initiatives
• Establish engineering and operational procedures in line with company standards
• Travel between sites as required for project support

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering; Chartered Engineer preferred
• Minimum 6 years of experience in electrical/power design for substations (33kV/132kV/275kV) and construction project delivery; data centre experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of HV/MV electrical distribution and protection studies
• Familiarity with TNB/local authority procedures and standards
• Proficiency in MS Office and experience with mechanical HVAC software such as IES
• Excellent command of English; additional languages such as Chinese or Bahasa Malaysia/Indonesia are an advantage
• Strong interpersonal skills, proactive, detail‑oriented, and able to work under pressure
