Key Responsibilities
PCB Design and Development
- Design multi-layer PCBs, including high-speed and high-density layouts, using tools such as Altium Designer, KiCAD, or equivalent.
- Perform schematic capture and create detailed PCB layouts for analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits.
- Optimize layouts for signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal performance.
Manufacturing and Assembly Support
- Generate and review design files, including Gerber files, fabrication, and assembly drawings.
- Collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure designs meet fabrication and assembly requirements.
- Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews.
Testing and Validation
- Work closely with hardware engineers to validate PCB designs through testing and debugging.
- Use testing equipment like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers to troubleshoot board-level issues.
- Ensure all designs meet quality, performance, and reliability standards.
Collaboration and Documentation
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software teams to integrate PCBs into complete systems.
- Maintain detailed documentation for designs, including schematics, BOMs, and design revisions.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure alignment with project goals and technical standards.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated on the latest trends in PCB design, materials, and manufacturing techniques.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance design efficiency and quality.
Required Skills and Expertise
PCB Design Tools
- Proficiency in PCB design software such as Altium Designer, KiCAD, or Cadence Allegro.
- Familiarity with simulation tools for signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal analysis.
Design Knowledge
- Strong understanding of PCB design principles, including impedance control, routing, and layer stack‑up.
- Experience with high-speed digital designs and power supply layouts.
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC compliance and mitigation techniques.
Manufacturing and Testing
- Understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes.
- Familiarity with standards such as IPC‑2221 and IPC‑7351 for PCB design and manufacturing.
- Experience with PCB debugging and testing methodologies.
Collaboration and Communication
- Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills to convey design concepts and updates.
Nice to Have
- Experience with flex and rigid‑flex PCB designs.
- Knowledge of low‑power or wearable device PCB layouts.
- Familiarity with 3D modeling tools for mechanical integration.
- Hands‑on experience with RF PCB design and testing.
- Proficiency in scripting for automation using tools like Python, Tcl, or shell scripts to streamline PCB design processes and workflows.
