Job summary

A leading financial services group is seeking an Associate Legal Counsel for Southeast Asia. The role focuses on legal and regulatory compliance for overseas operations, particularly in technology sectors like Internet and FinTech. OceanBase-Associate Legal Counsel, Southeast Asia-OceanBase

1. Conduct proactive legal and regulatory compliance analyses for OceanBase's overseas business activities in Southeast Asia, with a specific focus on supporting clients in high-growth sectors such as Internet and FinTech.

2. Pre-research and assess legal risk levels within local and regional jurisdictions, providing comprehensive risk judgments and actionable mitigation strategies tailored to specific projects and client engagements.

Commercial Contract Management: Cloud Service & Software Sales: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide array of commercial agreements, including:

  • Cloud service contracts and all related ancillary agreements (e.g., Data Processing Agreements, Service Level Agreements, Pricing Addenda).
  • Other Business-Related Contracts:
    • Procurement contracts related to marketing activities and other operational needs.
    • Partner channel agreements, including referral and reseller contracts.
    • Legal review and preparation of legal documents required for overseas project tender submissions.

Others:

  • Manage and oversee the contract approval process for the Southeast Asia region.
  • Provide daily legal advice and consultation on legal queries from regional business teams.
Job Requirement

Educational Background:

Law major, postgraduate degree (Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur University and other well-known local universities, LLM study experience in Singapore, UK, America or Australia is a plus).

Professional Ability:

  • Able to independently handle legal compliance analysis of local laws and other Southeast Asian countries (can hire external lawyers to assist), have Malaysian legal professional qualifications (such as Malaya Legal Qualification Examination, LCE) or obtain legal professional qualifications in other countries (such as British Solicitor qualification, American lawyer qualification, etc.).
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is essential. Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and/or other Southeast Asian languages (e.g., Malay, Bahasa Indonesia, Thai) would be a significant advantage.
  • Able to independently handle template maintenance and update of sales contracts such as cloud databases services and software sales, project negotiations, contract revisions, etc.

Experience:

  • 2-3 years of legal work experience in technology companies or database-related industries, especially in the fields of contract law and data privacy law, and familiar with Internet, FinTech related industry regulatory provisions.
  • Past experience in handling cross-border business and strong cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Experience in drafting and reviewing contracts, especially in technology-related contracts (such as software license agreements, cloud database service contracts, data processing agreements, etc.).
  • Highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
