Music Teacher Elementary School (IB PYP)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled music educator to lead the Elementary School music program within the IB Primary Years Programme. The successful candidate will inspire creativity, self expression, and cultural appreciation through meaningful music instruction. This role includes designing engaging lessons, supporting performances, and collaborating with colleagues to enrich learning across the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
Curriculum and Instruction
  • Develop and deliver age appropriate music lessons aligned with the IB PYP.
  • Integrate music skills, theory, and performance with transdisciplinary themes to support real world connections.
  • Encourage creativity, confidence, and teamwork through singing, instrumental activities, and movement.
Planning and Collaboration
  • Work closely with homeroom and specialist teachers to connect music learning with the broader curriculum.
  • Plan and implement music schedules, rehearsals, and performances that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Assist in organizing concerts, assemblies, and community celebrations.
Assessment and Feedback
  • Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate musical understanding, creativity, and personal growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide regular feedback to students and families.
  • Participate in parent teacher conferences and share insights on student development.
Resource and Program Management
  • Maintain and organize instruments, equipment, and learning spaces to ensure a safe and engaging environment.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to plan for new instruments, technology, and program improvement.
Professional Development and Engagement
  • Lead or participate in professional development focused on music education and PYP methodologies.
  • Engage in team meetings and professional learning communities to strengthen teaching practice.
  • Stay current with trends in music education, arts integration, and inquiry based learning.
Communication and Community Engagement
  • Communicate proactively with parents, staff, and administrators about curriculum, events, and student achievements.
  • Prepare newsletters, presentations, or digital updates to highlight the music program and student learning.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment where students explore music from a range of cultures and traditions.
  • Organize or support concerts, showcases, guest artist visits, and community music initiatives.
Student Support and Safety
  • Ensure student safety during classes, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying levels of musical experience and confidence.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Supervise at least two after school clubs, ensembles, or activities related to music or the arts.
  • Assist with school wide responsibilities such as playground or lunch supervision.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Elementary School Principal.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Elementary Education, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Teaching diploma, certificate, or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably in an IB PYP setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development, music theory, and performance.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students through dynamic and engaging lessons.
  • Excellent communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience with inquiry based learning and the PYP is highly desirable.
  • Ability to integrate technology to support music learning and performance.
