· Perform analytical, microscopic and manual medical laboratory tests for diagnosis.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive blood, urine, stool, tissue or other bodily fluids for lab analysis.
- Collect blood samples from patients, observe principles of aseptic technique to obtain blood sample.
- Perform calibration procedures, and analyze and verify the acceptability of Quality Control values prior to analyzing patient samples.
- Determine the acceptability of and prepare patient samples for analysis.
- Perform various biochemical, haematology, microscopic and bacteriologic tests to obtain data.
- Analyze patient samples and evaluate the reliability of test results according to age, gender and specimen acceptability criteria prior to releasing information for use in patient care and treatment.
- Perform and document routine maintenance of department equipment's and call for maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Place orders for reagents and supplies by maintaining optimal stock without excessive inventory.
- Record laboratory tests results and may engage in research and technical activities.
- Transcribe materials, file and maintain all pathology and clinical laboratory files.
- Capable of processing, typing, testing and storing blood.
- Attend meetings as required and participate in respective meetings and seminars as directed.
- Assist to prepare written documentation and file as required by the profession.
- Maintain department's records, reports and files as required.
- Participate in assigned proficiency surveys, performance improvement activities and mandatory continuing education programs.
- Participate in training and orientation of new employee and relevant others including technical guidance.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to prevent contamination and exposure to chemicals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Education and Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology / Biomedical Sciences with more than four (4) to five (5) years of working experience in laboratory with the ability to run an individual department.
- Valid annual practicing certificate where applicable.
- Understand staining techniques, culture methods, sterilization methods and techniques.
- Has a basic knowledge of various fields of specialty of laboratory work.
- Have good command in both English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
