The Mechanical Engineer (Engineer 2) will support the engineering, design, and execution of bioenergy projects, including biomass power plants and palm oil mill biomass systems. This role requires a mechanical engineering background, with the ability to perform heat and mass balance calculations, assist in mechanical design, and support project coordination. As an Engineer 2, the candidate is expected to work independently with some guidance, handling both office and site tasks.
Candidates without direct experience in biomass boilers, steam systems, or palm oil mill equipment but who are eager to learn and grow with us are also encouraged to apply.
Job location: KL Eco City, Bangsar
Preferred local candidates for better familiarity with site conditions and local project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform heat and mass balance calculations for biomass systems (combustion, steam cycle, drying, energy recovery).
- Support mechanical design work such as equipment sizing, piping design, layout review, and technical specifications.
- Assist in evaluating biomass fuel properties, combustion performance, flue gas data, and overall system efficiency.
- Work with senior engineers on design reviews for boilers, turbines, fuel handling systems, conveyors, shredders, chippers, and palm oil mill biomass equipment.
- Provide engineering input for feasibility studies, proposals, and conceptual design work.
- Assist in preparing project schedules, timelines, resource plans, and progress reports.
- Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, suppliers, and contractors.
- Support project documentation including reports, method statements, meeting minutes, and technical submissions.
- Participate in vendor evaluation and technical tender reviews.
- Conduct site surveys, inspections, and data collection for engineering assessments.
- Assist in monitoring construction and installation works to ensure compliance with design, quality, and safety standards.
- Support commissioning activities (equipment testing, performance checks, troubleshooting).
- Attend site meetings and follow up on technical and project matters.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 2–4 years of relevant experience (experience in biomass, palm oil mill operations, energy systems, or mechanical design is an advantage).
- Understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical equipment relevant to biomass energy.
- Proficient in engineering tools/software such as Advanced Excel, AutoCAD, and basic engineering calculation tools.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and perform engineering calculations.
- Familiar with project scheduling tools (MS Project; Primavera is an added advantage).
- Good organizational, communication, and reporting skills.
- Able to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Willing to travel and work at project sites when required.
- Experience with biomass boilers, steam systems, or palm oil mill equipment.
- Familiarity with Malaysian regulatory bodies (DOE, DOSH, Energy Commission).
- Experience in feasibility studies or renewable energy project development.
