The Mechanical & Engineering Supervisor oversees and coordinates all mechanical engineering activities on a construction site to ensure that projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with technical specifications and standard.
JOB SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Project Planning & Coordination
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Plan and allocate manpower, materials, and equipment for mechanical works (HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, piping, etc.).
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (civil, electrical, structural) to ensure design and installation compatibility.
Site Supervision
- Monitor daily mechanical work progress and ensure adherence to project timelines.
- Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
- Conduct inspections to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with safety standards.
Quality & Safety Control
- Implement and enforce safety procedures and permit‑to‑work systems.
- Ensure compliance with QA/QC requirements, codes, and standards.
- Conduct site audits and inspections to identify and correct issues.
Technical Support
- Resolve on‑site technical issues in coordination with design and project engineers.
- Provide engineering input for design modifications or method statements.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare daily/weekly progress reports, inspection reports, and material request forms.
- Maintain as‑built drawings and technical documentation for project handover.
Team Management
- Supervise and guide foremen, technicians, and subcontractors.
- Provide training and ensure proper task allocation for efficient site operations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification (preferred, depending on region/industry).
- 3-5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, including design, maintenance, or project management.
- Proven experience with mechanical systems, rotating equipment, HVAC, piping, or manufacturing machinery.
- Strong background in preventive and predictive maintenance systems.
- Experience using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) and project management tools.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, quality standards, and mechanical codes.
- Proficiency in computer‑aided design and engineering analysis software.
