Job description
Responsibilities
  • Drive the success of the American food and beverage industry in Malaysia by identifying and converting leads into opportunities for American clients, and fostering close relationships with key stakeholders in Malaysia.
  • Become a Malaysia market insights expert and share those insights impactfully with clients, customers, and colleagues.
  • Strengthen the reputation of American food and drink in Malaysia through the development and execution of an engaging marketing and communications plan.
  • Develop and implement sector strategies for American food in Malaysia.
  • Conduct one to one buyer meetings and presentations to generate leads for American companies.
  • Co‑ordinate offline and online food promotions and social media marketing (both B2B and B2C) to raise awareness of designated products and U.S. industry capability.
  • Develop new and strengthen existing relationships with key distributors and buyers.
  • Support clients in the market through the delivery of associations' services.
  • Contribute to organization of trade missions and other market study visits involving U.S. government and company delegates.
  • Keep abreast of market trends and regulatory environment in specific sectors and channels, as well as economic, social and political trends, and communicate to U.S. stakeholders via regular reports.
  • Identify and manage relationships with local market experts to outsource ad‑hoc research projects and provide services to clients.
  • Provide input into various internal and departmental reporting mechanisms: key performance indicator reports, market profiles and annual reports. Draft annual plans for the region and budget accordingly in collaboration with Director.
Qualifications
  • Degree level qualification in relevant discipline, e.g. International Business/Marketing
  • 3 + years' experience operating in a marketing or business development role
  • Experience generating and distilling market insights
  • Successful implementation of trade and/or consumer marketing campaigns
  • Experience and knowledge of the food and drink industry an advantage
  • Knowledge of the American food, Drink and Horticulture sector
  • Record of working independently in China
  • Proven experience of building credible professional relationships with suppliers, trade customers, media, and government both in America and the marketplace
  • Proven experience operating professionally in different cultures
  • Strong results driven KPI culture; budget management experience
Required Skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English and proficient written and spoken Chinese
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with strong verbal and report writing ability
  • Highly tuned influencing and negotiating skills adapted to the local culture
  • Proven organizational skills and practical application of project management tools and techniques
  • Proficient business use of the full Microsoft Office suite, Salesforce CRM and video conferencing tools
