Job summary

A leading construction and real estate company in Malaysia is seeking a qualified legal professional to manage its construction advisory portfolio and provide legal counsel on commercial agreements. With 6-8 years of post-qualifying experience, you will play a key role in advising on construction-related legal matters, corporate disputes, and compliance. Qualifications

Responsibilities

Manage the construction advisory portfolio (non-contentious) including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on construction-related transactions and agreements (e.g., PAM and IEM contracts, supply contracts, letters of award, tender documents, vendor/supplier appointments, NDAs).

Assist in drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on various commercial agreements, such as IT service level agreements, system/software maintenance, software development agreements, media contracts, sales & marketing agreements, and promotional T&Cs.

Assist in managing the Group’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), including trademark applications, renewals, register maintenance, third-party consent, and defending infringements.

Assist in managing corporate disputes: assess potential claims, identify risks, strategize legal positions, advise on solutions to minimize risks, support settlements, review cause papers, and provide litigation updates to Senior Management.

Provide legal advice to business and support units on general legal matters, offering practical solutions to mitigate risks while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Conduct legal research on relevant laws, cases, and updates, advising on compliance impacts and new legislation related to the Group’s operations.

Manage and oversee services provided by external counsel for the assigned legal portfolio.

Provide administrative support to the Corporate Services team, monitor progress on legal matters, and follow up on outstanding issues or transactions.

Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.

Provide guidance and support to junior team members.

Perform any other duties assigned by the General Counsel.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor of Law, preferably called to the Bar
  • 6-8 years post-qualifying experience gained in legal practice and/or in-house position (construction & corporate /commercial portfolio)
  • Construction (non-contentious / advisory and contentious) and procurement matters
  • Corporate and commercial transactions
  • In-house legal experience within a listed corporation is preferred.
  • Proven experience in transactional work and negotiations for construction, corporate, and commercial matters.
  • Strong legal judgment and risk assessment capabilities.
  • Solid understanding of substantive and procedural law (e.g., pleadings, discovery, pretrial, settlements, appeals).
  • Good commercial acumen and ability to separate legal from commercial considerations.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and drafting skills.
  • Sound knowledge of construction, corporate, and commercial laws.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect and communicate with internal stakeholders at all levels.
