Manager - Counselling & Student Welfare (80090)
Sunway Education Group is seeking a Manager – Counselling & Student Welfare to provide clinical counselling services, lead crisis and case management, and develop mental health programmes for a diverse student population. The role supports policy implementation, stakeholder collaboration, and strategic initiatives to enhance student wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual counselling services to students.
- Conduct theme-based group counselling for students across various programmes.
- Refer students (or their family members) professionals or specialists when necessary.
- Prepare and maintain accurate counselling-related records, documentation, and reports.
- Ensure all counselling-related forms, processes, and SOPs are kept up to date and relevant.
- Serve as a member of the crisis management team and provide support in crisis situations.
- Support the implementation and practice of the Student Mental Health Policy and Students with Disabilities Policy.
- Plan, organise, and lead structured programmes, prevention initiatives, and mental wellbeing events for the student population.
- Work closely with student bodies and internal stakeholders to promote mental health literacy and engagement.
- Plan and deliver targeted programmes or initiatives for specific groups in alignment with the unit's strategic direction.
- Support the Head of Counselling and Student Welfare in departmental functions.
- Stay current with developments in the counselling and mental health field through professional reading, training, seminars, and networking with external agencies.
- Gather information on community mental health needs and available resources to complement student support services.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology or Counselling, and other relevant areas of study.
- Registered or licensed with a recognised professional body (Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia or Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council).
- Minimum 5 years of relevant clinical experience, preferably within higher education, youth, or community mental health settings.
- Experience in supervision, coordination, or leadership roles, including oversight of cases, programmes, or junior staff.
- Strong clinical and case management skills, including risk assessment, crisis response, referrals, and documentation.
- Good working knowledge of mental health policies, ethical standards, and institutional practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages is an added advantage.
- Strong organisational, planning, and programme management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, student bodies, and external agencies.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to develop and implement appropriate action plans.
- Able to work effectively with diverse student populations.
