Overview
The Legal Manager provides legal support across business units, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. A team player to align and work together with other managers in the legal department.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely and practical legal advice to internal stakeholders.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents across various business areas including insurance, property, finance, and employment.
- Identify legal risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support corporate exercises and regulatory submissions (if any).
- Liaise with external counsel and monitor performance.
- Assist in developing legal policies, procedures, and templates.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assist the Head of Legal on all matters related to the Legal Division as assigned from time to time.
- Ensure compliance to policies, guidelines, and regulations.
- Perform other duties as delegated by the Head of Legal.
Managerial and Organizational Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.
- Effective liaison with all business units across the organization on legal matters and provides necessary inputs where required.
- Adept at using technology to enhance legal and compliance functions.
Jobholder Requirements
- Education/Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) and related experience; Qualified advocate & solicitor in Malaysia.
- Experience/Requirements: 5 to 10 years of legal experience, preferably in financial services or insurance. Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills. Analytical, proactive, and able to work independently and in teams. Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with legal tech tools. Demonstrates initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement. Drives change through strategic and innovative thinking.
