Job summary

A reputable global recruitment consultancy is seeking a Legal Counsel for a hybrid role based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The ideal candidate will be a qualified lawyer with at least 3 years of experience in contract review and regulatory matters. Responsibilities include reviewing and drafting contracts, providing legal advice, and ensuring compliance. The position is open only to Malaysian citizens.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in contract review and regulatory matters.
  • Able to review Mandarin or bilingual contracts.
  • Experience with data privacy is preferred.

Responsibilities
  1. Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts across SEA in a timely manner.
  2. Liaise and coordinate with internal stakeholders and clients on contract-related matters.
  3. Provide legal advice on contracts, disputes, and other business issues.
  4. Review and advise on other legal or commercial documents (e.g., leases, employment contracts, demand letters).
  5. Develop and implement contract management processes.
  6. Support compliance with data privacy, cybersecurity, and industry regulations in SEA and Greater China.
  7. Conduct legal research and stay updated on new regulations affecting business operations.
  8. Prepare and maintain legal documentation and a regulatory reference library.
  9. Assist with licensing and registration processes across the region.
  10. Liaise with external legal advisers when required and handle other ad hoc legal matters.
Requirements
  1. Qualified lawyer in Malaysia.
  2. Minimum 3 years of experience in contract review and regulatory matters (data privacy experience preferred).
  3. Able to review Mandarin or bilingual contracts.
  4. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  5. Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  6. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  7. Flexible and proactive in handling diverse legal, compliance, and regulatory tasks.
