LANGUAGE TEACHER (DG9)

Department of General Studies Unit Kulliyyah of Sustainable Tourism and Contemporary Languages

International Islamic University Malaysia – Pagoh, Johor

Post: Language Teacher (Mandarin) Grade: DG9

Status of Appointment: Permanent (Malaysian Only)

Basic salary: Between RM2,250.00 to RM11,110.00 (based on experience)

Area of specialization: Mandarin Language, Chinese Culture

Location: Pagoh Edu Hub, Pagoh Campus, Johor

Scope

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of the IIUM. The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to his colleagues and students as part and parcel of his duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM. The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards and Committees to which he may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any Statutes or Acts, or of any administrative actions of the Rector, Dean or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department. The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community and to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour and moral conduct. In short, he is not only a teacher (Mu’allim), a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.
  • Developing curriculum and course material that can be used across a number of platforms.
  • Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
  • Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
  • Managing administrative tasks and documentation related to teaching and other academic matters.
  • Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
  • Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.
  • Providing support to students and other colleagues.
  • Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidate must possess a bachelor's degree in language teaching Mandarin language or a related field (CGPA>3.0).
  • Having previous teaching experience in Mandarin is advantageous.
  • Published work would be advantageous.
  • Having a deep understanding of Chinese Culture would be advantageous.
  • Able to explain/teach Chinese Culture and share it with the students.
  • Ability to motivate students with enthusiasm and passion for teaching.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work long hours.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative skills and ready to take the initiative to initiate new projects.
  • Having basic skills in Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
Language Qualifications
  • Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level O.
  • Achieved English language qualification (at least) CEFR C1 / IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidate without any of these qualification will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
  • HSK 5 or higher. Candidate without any of these qualifications will be required to take the exam in the future.
