Job summary

A construction firm in Malaysia is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to assist with the preparation of Bills of Quantities and cost documentation. Responsibilities include support for tender evaluation, maintaining contract documentation, and verifying contractor claims. The ideal candidate should possess a Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field, with 1-2 years of experience in property development or construction. Proficiency in AutoCAD is a plus, along with good negotiation and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in construction estimating or finance will be an added advantage.

Job description

Reporting To: Senior Admin Executive / Project Director

Additional Scope: Ad-Hoc Corporate & Project Support

Responsibilities
  1. Assist in preparation of Bills of Quantities (BQ), cost breakdowns, and tender documentation in compliance with JKR standards.
  2. Support tender evaluation, cost comparison, and tender report preparation.
  3. Prepare preliminary cost estimates, budget forecasts and value engineering proposals.
  4. Coordinate with consultants, engineers, and JKR officers for clarification of specifications and scope.
  5. Maintain complete contract documentation including LOA, contract drawings, VO logs, instruction records and correspondence.
  6. Assist in preparation and tracking of Variation Orders (VO), including measurement, costing, and supporting justifications.
  7. Update project cost control sheets and ensure cost movements are properly recorded.
  8. Conduct site measurements and prepare interim valuations / progress claims.
  9. Verify contractor’s claims against actual work done, drawings and site conditions.
  10. Assist in preparing payment certificates, recommendation for payment (RFP), and supporting documents for JKR submission.
  11. Track outstanding claims, retention sums, and ensure timely certification and payment cycles.
  12. Maintain cost monitoring report, highlighting cost variance and risk exposure.
  13. Prepare monthly cost reports, VO summary, claim status updates and budget tracking reports.
  14. Undertake any ad-hoc tasks as assigned by Management in line with project and corporate objectives.
Requirements
