Job description

Lead and manage the organisation’s Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) strategy, systems, compliance, people, and performance to create a safe, compliant, and high-performance workplace. This role influences top management decisions, drives safety culture, and ensures operational continuity while safeguarding people, assets, and reputation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the HSE function and team, including Safety Managers, Officers, and coordinators.
  • Develop and build safety competence across functions via training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Manage HSE budget, equipment, training, and initiatives. Reduce costs associated with workplace incidents, claims, and regulatory fines.
  • Assess safety risks in store layouts, stocking, handling, and customer-facing environments. Coordinate with merchandising, supply chain, and store operations to embed safety into processes.
  • Guarantee customer areas are hazard-free and compliant with safety standards. Investigate and respond to customer safety incidents.
  • Oversee safety of buildings, fire systems, utilities, and workplace environments. Ensure safe design, maintenance, and emergency preparedness of facilities.
  • Lead risk assessments (HIRARC), audits, inspections, and corrective actions. Set and monitor safety KPIs and performance dashboards.
  • Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and preventive strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with Malaysian safety laws (e.g., OSHA 1994, DOSH requirements), ISO 45001, and other standards. Lead internal and external audit readiness and reporting.
  • Maintain documentation for statutory reporting and regulatory submissions. Represent the company during inspections and investigations.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Typically 10+ years in safety leadership roles.
  • Proven experience managing large teams, multi-site operations, and cross‑functional safety programs.
  • Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • Professional certification (e.g., DOSH Registered Safety Officer / Green Book preferred).
  • Advanced training/qualification in ISO 45001/9001/14001 is an advantage.
