Job summary

A leading food and beverage company is looking for a Head of Quality to oversee and improve the Quality and Food Safety Management System. This role demands extensive experience in food safety regulations and leadership abilities to manage quality teams. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with industry standards, driving food safety culture, and leading audits. Candidates should have at least 10 years of relevant experience along with a degree in Food Science or related fields. The position is based in Rawang, Malaysia.

Job description

The Head of Quality is responsible for developing, leading, and continuously improving the Quality and Food Safety Management System of the manufacturing plant to ensure full compliance with regulatory, customer, and corporate requirements. This role ensures product safety, quality, legality, and authenticity while driving a strong food safety culture across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Quality & Food Safety Leadership
  • Define and implement the plant quality and food safety strategy aligned with corporate and regulatory requirements
  • Act as the site food safety leader, with authority to stop production when food safety or quality is compromised
  • Promote and sustain a strong food safety and quality culture across all departments
Compliance & Certifications
  • Ensure compliance with local and international food regulations (e.g. FDA, Codex, Japanese Sanitation Law, KFDA, BPOM, local authorities, etc)
  • Lead and maintain GFSI‑recognized certifications (e.g. FSSC 22000, BRCGS, SQF)
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory authorities, customers, and third‑party auditors
  • Lead all internal, external, customer, and regulatory audits and manage corrective actions
Quality Management Systems
  • Oversee and continuously improve the quality management system (QMS) including HACCP / food safety plans, PRPs and OPRPs, change management, document control, and non‑conformance and CAPA systems
  • Ensure effective risk assessment and mitigation across raw materials, processes, and finished goods
Operations & Process Control
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and R&D to ensure quality‑by‑design in processes and products
  • Drive reduction of defects, complaints, and waste
  • Approve suppliers, raw materials, and packaging from a quality perspective
  • Oversee quality control laboratories, testing protocols, and release processes
  • Lead management of customer complaints, recalls, and crisis situations
  • Ensure effective traceability, mock recalls, and crisis management readiness
  • Drive continuous improvement based on customer feedback and performance metrics
People Management
  • Lead, coach, and develop the quality and food safety team
  • Define training programs for food safety, GMP, and quality awareness for all employees
  • Ensure competency, succession planning, and talent development within the quality function
  • Define and monitor quality KPIs (e.g. complaints, audit scores, right‑first‑time, COPQ)
  • Drive continuous improvement using 5S, SPC, PDCA, RCA tools or similar methodologies
  • Benchmark best practices and implement innovations in quality systems and food safety
Qualifications & Experience
Education
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field
Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in quality and food safety within food & beverage manufacturing
  • Proven leadership experience managing quality teams at plant or regional level
  • Strong experience with GFSI standards, regulatory inspections, and customer audits (international / local)
  • Experience handling product recalls, crisis management, and root cause analysis
  • Registered Food Analyst
Technical Skills
  • Expert knowledge of HACCP, GMP, food safety regulations, and risk management
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (liquid, powder, aseptic, etc. as applicable)
  • Data‑driven mindset with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
