Job description

Raffles Prep Academy is the preparatory division of Raffles American School. We provide intensive English programs, foundation programs, and personalized learning programs for international students. Our boarding program plays a crucial role in supporting students’ well‑being, growth, and daily routines. We are now seeking an experienced and dedicated Head of Boarding to lead and manage our boarding team.

The Head of Boarding is responsible for the overall leadership, welfare, safety, and daily management of the Prep Academy boarding houses. This role requires a caring leader who can build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and the wider school community.

Objectives
  • Build and maintain positive, supportive relationships among boarding staff, teaching staff, students, and parents
  • Ensure a happy, caring, secure, and stable environment (physically and emotionally) for all boarding students
  • Place student welfare and safeguarding as the highest priority
  • Promote the school as a caring and nurturing environment dedicated to holistic development
  • Work in the best interest of the students, the boarding program, and the school as a whole
  • Organize and oversee the students’ Evening Study Hall sessions to ensure a structured, productive, and well‑supervised learning environment
Responsibilities
  • Lead the Prep Boarding Team and foster a supportive, collaborative culture.
  • Ensure boarding staff maintain strong, positive relationships with students.
  • Keep all boarding staff informed of student‑related matters, including wellbeing, health, and behaviour.
2. Boarding House Operations
  • Oversee daily routines and ensure smooth, efficient operation of all boarding houses.
  • Ensure the boarding environment is safe, secure, clean, and emotionally supportive.
  • Uphold all boarding policies, safeguarding standards, and emergency procedures.
3. Student Supervision & Welfare
  • Prioritize the welfare, safety, and emotional wellbeing of all boarding students.
  • Supervise students in all out‑of‑class situations, ensuring their domestic and pastoral needs are met.
  • Address student pastoral issues, emotional support needs, and behavioural concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitor student attendance, wellbeing, conduct, and overall development.
4. Behaviour Management
  • Ensure the Boarding Houses Code of Conduct is clearly communicated and consistently enforced.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day student behaviour management and disciplinary procedures.
  • Ensure all disciplinary actions follow fair, transparent, and consistent processes.
5. Academic Support
  • Supervise and support students in their academic activities, including homework, assessments, study routines, tutoring, and communication with home as needed.
  • Oversee and organize Evening Study Hall sessions to maintain a structured and productive learning environment.
6. Communication & Coordination
  • Maintain regular, clear communication with parents regarding student progress and wellbeing.
  • Coordinate effectively with academic staff to support students’ holistic development.
  • Keep both boarding staff and school leadership informed about relevant student issues, while maintaining appropriate privacy and confidentiality.

  • Enthusiastic, self‑motivated, flexible, and committed to providing a positive boarding experience
  • Excellent in interpersonal communication; able to respond effectively to students, parents, and staff
  • Strong in organisation, forward planning, and administrative skills
  • Competent with Microsoft Office
  • Able to work under pressure while following school procedures and safeguarding policies
  • Experienced in managing pastoral care, student behaviour, and disciplinary matters
  • A strong team leader and collaborative team player
  • Genuinely interested in the wellbeing of teenagers
  • Professional in appearance, conduct, and communication
