Group Accountant
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements for the Group in compliance with IFRS/MFRS.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reporting, including public
announcements.
- Coordinate with finance teams across subsidiaries to ensure timely submission of financial statements, analyses, and supporting documentation.
- Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Perform comprehensive financial and ratio analyses of consolidated statements, providing performance commentary including P&L, balance sheet, and trend analysis.
- Support and coordinate internal and external audit processes, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements and timely provision of documentation.
- Prepare and coordinate materials for AGMs, Board meetings, and committee meetings (ARC, NC, RC).
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in preparing Group’s budgets, financial forecasts, and variance analysis to support business planning and decision-making.
- Governance, Risk Management & Process Improvement: Develop and maintain consistent accounting policies and strong financial controls to manage risks, ensure compliance with regulations, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with business unit leaders to drive financial performance and provide actionable insights and reports to senior management and the Board.
- Cash Flow & Treasury Management: Oversee Group cash flow planning, ensure optimal liquidity, and develop strategies for effective working capital management.
- Support corporate exercises such as mergers, acquisitions, or restructuring initiatives, including financial evaluation and analysis.
- Liaise with auditors, company secretary, tax agents, banks, and regulatory authorities to ensure full statutory and regulatory compliance.
- Provide financial guidance, contribute to strategic planning, and undertake ad-hoc projects, including process standardization and system enhancements within the Group reporting function, as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized university; professional qualifications such as MIA, ACCA, CPA Australia, CIMA, or equivalent are preferred.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years in a related field, with substantial experience in group financial consolidation, preferably in the retail or FMCG industry.
- Prior external audit experience is a strong advantage.
- Proficient in accounting systems such as Monitor ERP, SAP B1, or AutoCount, with the ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and improve system usage.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g. formulas, pivot tables, charts) Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for reporting and presentations.
- Solid understanding of Malaysian tax regulations (including the Income Tax Act 1967), MFRS, and IFRS.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in Mandarin, English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Proactive, independent, and detail-oriented, with the ability to perform under tight deadlines; demonstrates strong commitment, accountability, adaptability, and a continuous improvement mindset.
