Job Title: EYC PE / Swim Teacher

Responsible to: Head of Early Years / Head of Sport & PE

Responsible for: Teaching Swimming and PE across at the EYC Campus

Main Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning Skills
  • Have an enthusiastic and positive attitude towards swimming and PE
  • Inspire confidence and motivate students in swimming and PE lessons
  • Demonstrate perseverance and patience
  • Ensure lessons are developmentally appropriate and adapted to meet the needs of individuals 5 years and under
  • Differentiate as necessary to meet the differing ability needs of all children
  • Acknowledge that English is not necessarily the native language of all children in the class and adapt his/her vocabulary accordingly
  • Provide an environment in which the children feel safe, confident and happy to learn
  • Identify participants’ abilities and encourage them to reach their full potential
  • Provide explanations and demonstrate techniques
  • Challenge growth mindset and identify ways to improve skills
  • Lead daily Music & Movement activities with EYC Music staff
General Duties
  • Take an active role as a member of the EYC team including daily supervision duties
  • Set up and maintain the outdoor learning space to encourage safe, inclusive and developmentally appropriate physical movement experiences
  • Be prepared to be visited and observed by colleagues
  • Ensure that children are not left unsupervised
  • Insist on good levels of behaviour at all times
  • Serve as a role model to the children in terms of behaviour, dress, attitude and manners
  • Participate fully in the Extra Curricular Activities programme
  • Be available to attend and participate in extra-curricular events and competitions, including weekends on occasion
  • Actively support the ethos of the school
  • Be familiar with the Handbook for Families, with Staff Supplement
  • Ensure safe provision of all equipment and ensure it is used correctly
  • Make sure safety standards are followed in sessions and undertake risk assessments
  • Manage assistants and programmes as directed by the Head of EYC
Planning
  • Plan lessons carefully to ensure participation and progress
  • Use the skills in the EYFS Framework (Development Matters) to inform planning and supporting planning schemes used
  • Collaborate with other teachers in planning to ensure continuity and progression
  • Participate in the development and review of the curriculum in collaboration with the line managers
  • Participate in the development and review of school policies where necessary
Assessment
  • Formally report on each child’s progress at the end of each term
  • Continuously assess each student so as to be able to clearly justify and substantiate grades, levels or comments given in each report
  • Design developmentally appropriate assessment activities to identify attainment
  • Track skill development using the ISP Goals Tracker
  • Be prepared to discuss report grades and each child’s progress with parents both on Parents’ Evenings and at other reasonable times throughout the year
Person/ Professional Requirements
  • Show genuine enthusiasm for Early Years Practice and working with very young children
  • Relevant experience of teaching PE and swimming to young children
  • Possess a recognised teaching qualification relevant to the position of an Early Years swimming teacher
  • Possess a current Early years Lifeguarding certificate and knowledge of first aid skills is desirable
Other Responsibilities
  • Actively support and adhere to the Child Protection Policy, including attending annual training
