Job summary

A leading engineering construction firm in Penang is seeking an Engineering Manager (M&E) to oversee and lead Mechanical and Electrical projects. This full-time position involves managing complex projects to ensure timely delivery within budget and high standards. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience and a strong technical understanding of M&E engineering principles. Proficiency in Mandarin and English is required, alongside excellent project management and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in an engineering management role, preferably in construction.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Mechanical Design and Engineering.
  • Strong technical knowledge of M&E engineering principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken Mandarin and English.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage M&E projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements.
  • Supervise multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure high-quality outputs.

Hong Poh Engineering Construction Sdn Bhd – Penang

As an Engineering Manager (M&E) at Hong Poh Engineering Construction Sdn Bhd, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) engineering projects and teams which is based in Ayer Itam, Penang. This full‑time position will oversee the successful delivery of complex M&E projects, ensuring they are completed on time within budget and to the highest standards of quality.

What you’ll be doing
  • Provide overall management and leadership for M&E engineering projects, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation and monitoring.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and other stakeholders to understand requirements and manage expectations.
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring they deliver high‑quality outputs.
  • Provide technical directions and guidance to the engineering team.
  • Coordinate & management work including good project management, budgeting, resource allocation, accurate project scope definition and project scheduling to meet time to client requirement.
  • Regularly update and report on engineering and project performance, progress and analysis.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and implement effective problem‑solving strategies to address challenges.
  • Produce and maintain all engineering procedures and quality records of the department.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards, regulations and safety protocols.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and practices.
  • Mentor and develop the skills of junior engineering staff.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities, which may be assigned by the Company from time to time with on‑time full closure.
What we’re looking for
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a similar engineering management role, preferably in the construction industry.
  • At least 5 years working experience in Mechanical Design and Engineering at managerial position.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex M&E projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of M&E engineering principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent project management, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools, such as AutoCAD, BIM and project management software.
  • Significant hands‑on experience and understanding of software, mechanical, electrical engineering in building services is an added advantage.
  • Significant practical experience in developing and engineering lead in building mechanical work is an added advantage.
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken Mandarin and English.
  • Possess good leadership, organizing skills, teamwork spirit, positive attitude.
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines, able to balance short‑term, urgent needs with long‑term strategic initiatives.
  • Experience in managing teams of engineers and collaborating cross‑functional department with managers in other departments.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing Mandarin is highly desirable and will be considered an added advantage for this position.
