Engineering Lab Technician
To provide technical support and service to academic staff and students of School of Engineering so as to facilitate the smooth running of the engineering labs and allied academic activities, ensuring that laboratories operate safely and efficiently on a day-to-day basis.
Aid the day‑to‑day lab‑based teaching activities for the School of Engineering programs. This includes setting up, supervision and technical assistance in the various operational activities taking place in the lab.
Ensure maintenance, service and smooth running of the equipment and associated infrastructure in School of Engineering labs.
Create, maintain and update SOPs and Risk assessments for various equipment and activities for the labs.
Evaluate the laboratory needs, including consumables, in a timely manner according to the allocated budget and be responsible to place purchase orders and source the required materials from suppliers promptly.
Assembly/disassembly of project works and issuing of the project kits and equipment.
Work closely with Facilities and Health & Safety department to ensure full compliance of the labs with local and national health and safety regulatory requirements.
Assist in facilitating marketing activities as needed.
Working alongside both Academic and Professional Services Staff at UoSM and occasionally with members of staff from the UK.
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Engineering, or a related field.
Hands‑on skills and confidence to work with lab equipment, machines and tools.
Good standard of spoken and written English.
High level of maturity, integrity, and ability to handle confidential matters.
Ability to work flexibly to manage a variety of areas within this role.
Ability to work outside office hours as and when required.
Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the institution as it goes through a growth phase.
Experience and qualification in welding will be desirable.
Experience working in the industry as an engineer/technician will be a desirable qualification.
