A leading drilling consultancy firm is seeking a Drilling Performance Coach in Terengganu, Malaysia. The role focuses on enhancing drilling efficiency, safety, and cost control through coaching and mentoring of drilling teams. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's in Engineering, IWCF certification, and 10-15 years of experience in drilling operations. Applicants with offshore rig experience will be preferred.

Overview

The Drilling Performance Coach will support well delivery operations by driving continuous improvement in drilling efficiency, safety, and cost control. The role is focused on coaching, mentoring, and guiding drilling teams to adopt best practices, optimize rig performance, and achieve the operators well delivery objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and analyze daily drilling KPIs (ROP, flat time, NPT, connection times).
  • Identify inefficiencies and provide actionable recommendations to rig and office teams.
  • Benchmark performance against project targets and industry best practices.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Drilling Supervisors, Drillers, and rig crews.
  • Conduct on-the-job training, toolbox talks, and performance workshops.
  • Strengthen crew competency and operational discipline through regular engagement.
  • Support planning and execution of drilling operations, including DWOPs, pre-spud meetings, and after-action reviews.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and contractors to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving performance-related challenges.
  • Capture lessons learned and drive consistent implementation across all wells.
  • Support adoption of performance-enhancing technologies and tools.
  • Lead initiatives to minimize NPT and improve overall well delivery performance.
  • Promote compliance with HSSE standards and foster a strong safety culture.
  • Lead by example in safety leadership and operational discipline.
  • Reinforce proactive risk management and continuous performance improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Petroleum, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline.
  • IWCF Well Control (Supervisor Level) or equivalent certification required.
  • Minimum 10-15 years experience in drilling operations, including rig site supervisory roles.
  • Demonstrated success in drilling performance improvement and coaching.
  • Offshore experience with jack-up, semi-submersible, or deepwater rigs preferred.
  • Prior exposure to independent operators or marginal field development is an advantage.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in drilling performance analysis tools and real-time monitoring systems.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to perform under high-pressure operational conditions.
