Development Director I

You will report directly to the Studio Director and play a central role in enabling teams to deliver high‑quality, engaging game experiences on time and at scale. With a strong focus on team health, operational excellence, and cross‑functional collaboration, you will be the driving force behind effective workflows, empowered teams, and sustainable production practices.

Responsibilities
  • Own short‑to‑medium‑term planning, including scheduling, dependency tracking, risk identification, and mitigation strategies, ensuring delivery predictability across teams.
  • Lead resourcing and capacity planning for medium‑scale projects, working closely with discipline leads to assign talent, identify skill gaps, and recommend solutions through training, redistribution, or support.
  • Ensure development processes are followed consistently across teams, with a focus on workflow efficiency, timeline adherence, and clarity of roles and deliverables.
  • Proactively identify and resolve structural or workflow bottlenecks that impact delivery, driving process improvements in collaboration with leads and project stakeholders.
  • Monitor project health against timelines, budgets, and resourcing plans, tracking contractor and vendor input, and supporting financial tracking in coordination with production and finance partners.
  • Champion quality by identifying risks early, securing necessary resources, and coordinating corrective actions with art, engineering, and design leadership to protect polish.
  • Contribute strategic insights into resourcing capacity, technology readiness, and partner capabilities during long‑range planning cycles, helping shape project feasibility and sequencing.
  • Organize and lead Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives to maintain team alignment, transparency, and continuous delivery rhythm.
  • Drive coordination across disciplines and locations by maintaining clear communication, managing cross‑team dependencies, and ensuring alignment through shared schedules and studio priorities.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in game development production or project leadership.
  • Proven success managing cross‑functional teams through full development life cycles.
  • Demonstrated experience in people leadership: performance management, career development, motivation, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong command of project management methodologies including Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall in game development contexts.
  • Hands‑on experience improving processes, managing risk, resolving dependencies, and optimizing workflows at scale.
  • Experience working with internal and external partners in a coordination or oversight capacity.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence across levels and functions, especially in geo‑diverse environments.
  • Active learner with demonstrated growth in leadership competencies.
Tools & Software Knowledge
  • Experienced with project management tools such as Microsoft Project or equivalent for scheduling and critical path tracking.
  • Hands‑on expertise with Jira and Confluence for Agile planning, task management, team documentation, and knowledge sharing.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, and Google Slides.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
