Join our Finance team and advance your career as a Contract Advisory Lead.

Role Synopsis

The Contract Advisory Lead provides overall support to the Contracting Manager. The Contract Advisory Lead will assist in planning and implementing contracting knowledge management and enhancing contracting capabilities, process management improvements and actively involve in standardisation/transformation projects, collaborating with the embedded business units and service delivery teams, to ensure contracting process consistency across organisational boundaries. The Contract Advisory Lead will be delivering operational requirement in the Transformation programmes and deliver high levels of support to achieve the Transformation required. As bp is driving digital transformation, the Contract Advisory Lead will also be responsible to support digital projects relevant to the contracting space. The Contract Advisory Lead will need to maintain high standards of communication, impact analysis and evaluation of process changes. It is expected that the Contract Advisory Lead works collaboratively with Sourcing & Contracting in FBT & Procurement, Legal and other SMEs to drive a consistent contracting approach. The ideal candidate has practical and application experience in contracting of goods & services in the energy sector, extensive knowledge and understanding of contracts and legal terms, coupled with a strong commercial orientation and communication skills.

Key Results / Accountabilities
General
  • Support management, maintenance and change of the contracting policies, templates, schedules, articles, and coordinating with Legal and other SMEs as required.
  • Support in selecting a suitable contract template based on the respective Scope of Work and in alignment with Contracting Policies and Procedures.
  • General advice, including support on the meaning of legal clauses, its application and evaluation of contractual risk.
  • Support negotiations efforts (most of effort is in this area).
  • Support analysis of the business needs and support development of functional specifications required for the Contracting Transformation projects.
  • Develop, with Legal support, the appropriate contracting topics to support continuing education opportunities for procurement, co‑own contracting training sessions with Sourcing & Contracting to support the upskilling of contracting capabilities in procurement practitioners.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship for other Contract Advisory team members.
Process Standardisation
  • Support harmonisation of contracting processes across procurement - providing cross‑divisional process standards.
Process Analysis & CI Opportunity Identification
  • Support the gathering, compilation, and production of relevant business analytics on contracting processes performances.
  • Support assessment of contracting process performance and efficiency against market capabilities to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support process discovery walkthroughs with the embedded business teams and service delivery teams to identify most impactful changes.
CI Opportunity Evaluation & Transformation opportunities
  • Actively participate and provide input on process and system changes to enhance process standardisation and simplification, working with Digital Solution & Transformation, Technology and other relevant collaborators.
Experience & Expertise
Educational background
  • University degree or equivalent experience in Legal.
  • MCIPS/ISM qualification, or at stage of pre‑qualification, desirable.
Experience
  • Having working experience in Contracting and Procurement in the energy sector (Upstream, Downstream, IT related, Indirect, Workplace).
  • Considerable Business/Process Analysis experience, preferably with strong user interaction.
  • Strong knowledge of tools and systems associated with data gathering, compilation and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in process management and re‑engineering, if possible.
  • Have in‑depth knowledge of Procurement and contracting processes. Extensive knowledge and practical application experience in contract drafting, negotiations, contract assurance and review and contract management.
  • A strong track record of experience in developing business requirements and/or participation in large scale process re‑design initiatives in contracting. Relevant, previous experience with continuous improvement tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of project and change management methodologies and financial/operational control practices.
Other
  • Fluent in English.
  • Able to work in UK shift (1pm to 10pm).
  • Ability to communicate with varying levels within the organisation, internal and external.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills required given diverse nature of operating landscape.
  • Good influencing skills and the ability to motivate cross functional and diverse teams.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, analytical skills and ability to think outside the box.
  • Role will require occasional hours outside of standard business hours - to join calls with overseas team members.
  • Personal time management skills and ability to meet individual and team deadlines.
  • Contractually and commercially risk adverse.
  • Experienced working in virtual teams.
