About the Role

The Consultant - IT Project Manager (Drilling Business) is required to lead and deliver critical technology projects that directly support and enhance our Drilling Operations. In this pivotal role, the responsibility includes end-to-end management of projects that improve operational efficiency, safety, and technical performance. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between complex drilling workflows and IT or AI solutions, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in strict adherence to the highest safety and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

Project Leadership:

  • Plan, execute, monitor, and successfully close out IT/digital projects specific to drilling operations (e.g., rig software implementations, real-time data systems, drilling optimization tools, compliance platforms).

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as the primary liaison between the IT project team, drilling engineers, rig personnel, HSE teams, and senior management.
  • Translate operational needs into technical requirements and project deliverables.

Project Delivery Management:

  • Manage all aspects of the project lifecycle, including scope definition, schedule development, budget control, resource allocation, and quality assurance.

Risk & Issue Management:

  • Proactively identify, assess, mitigate, and report on project risks and issues.
  • Develop contingency plans to ensure project continuity and safety compliance.

Vendor & Contract Management:

  • Lead the selection and management of third-party vendors and contractors, ensuring their deliverables meet technical specifications, safety protocols, and contractual obligations.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure all projects align with company safety policies, industry regulations (e.g., API, ISO), and drilling best practices.
  • Champion a culture of safety in all project activities.

Facilitate Project Meetings:

  • Organize and facilitate project meetings to keep all stakeholders aligned with project timelines, goals, and progress.

Documentation & Status Reporting:

  • Prepare project documentation and status reports to keep stakeholders informed of key decisions and milestones.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and align with business requirements.
  • Adhere to regulatory requirements and company policies regarding system implementation and data security.

Change Management:

  • Coordinate the change management process, preparing the organization for changes associated with new systems.
  • Support user training and adoption efforts for smooth transitions.

Post-Implementation Support:

  • Provide support after implementation, addressing any bugs or issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Work with IT support teams to monitor system performance and conduct project retrospectives for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. An advanced degree is an added advantage.
  • Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP)® or equivalent certification.
Required Skills

  • Deep understanding of how Information Technology (IT) systems interface with and support Operational Technology (OT) in industrial environments (managing projects for real-time data platforms, equipment control software, and ensuring seamless, secure integration between corporate IT and field operations infrastructure).
  • Mastery of end-to-end project governance frameworks tailored for high-compliance sectors (e.g., Oil & Gas, Manufacturing). Rigorous stage-gate processes, safety and design reviews, change control, and delivering audit-ready documentation.
  • Advanced skill in procuring, contracting, and managing specialized vendors for complex technical services and solutions (drafting and negotiating SOWs and SLAs, managing system integrators, overseeing offshore/remote service delivery, and ensuring vendor performance aligns with its requirements).
  • Expertise in identifying, quantifying, and mitigating risks specific to operational disruption (conducting thorough risk assessments for technology deployments in live operational settings, developing robust rollback and business continuity plans, and ensuring minimal downtime and safety assurance during cutovers and go-live events).
Experience
  • 15 years++ of project management experience, with a significant portion within oil & gas drilling operations environments.
  • Direct experience with IT systems common in drilling operations (e.g., OSIsoft PI, drilling data hubs, well planning software, digital twin technology).
