Position Overview
The Carpenter Manager will lead and oversee the carpentry production, installation works, manpower coordination, and quality control for the newly established DCSG branch in Johor Bahru. As the Person-in-Charge, he will manage daily operations, ensure timely project delivery, maintain equipment and inventory, and uphold DCSG standards in workmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Project Management
- Plan, schedule, and manage all carpentry fabrication and installation works.
- Coordinate with Singapore HQ on project timelines, drawings, and technical requirements.
- Ensure all work meets required quality standards, dimensions, and finishing specifications.
- Lead site measurements, verify material needs, and assist in project cost estimation.
- Oversee day-to-day workshop operations including planning of daily jobs and prioritising urgent projects.
- Ensure smooth workflow between carpentry workshop and installation team.
People & Process Management
- Manage carpenters, helpers, and subcontractors.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and ensure productivity targets are met.
- Train new carpenters, supervise workmanship, and enforce best practices.
- Provide coaching on safety, tool usage, and finishing standards.
- Handle attendance, discipline, and basic HR matters (with Singapore HQ support).
Quality Control & Safety Compliance
- Perform inspections on all carpentry products before delivery or installation.
- Prepare corrective actions if workmanship does not meet DCSG quality expectations.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized workshop.
- Conduct regular toolbox meetings and enforce proper PPE and workshop safety procedures.
- Oversee procurement of materials such as plywood, hardware, laminates, adhesives, etc.
- Maintain accurate stock inventory of raw materials and consumables.
- Coordinate with local suppliers in Johor Bahru for timely delivery and cost‑effective sourcing.
- Ensure machines and tools are properly maintained, serviced, and functional.
- Plan for new equipment needed for JB carpentry workshop expansion.
Administration & Reporting
- Prepare daily/weekly progress reports for Singapore HQ.
- Maintain records of production output, manpower utilisation, and material usage.
- Support budgeting and cost‑control activities to meet business financial goals.
- Assist in setting up SOPs for the new JB carpentry workshop.
Requirements
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in carpentry, including leadership or supervisory roles.
- Strong hands‑on carpentry skills (cabinetry, custom furniture, renovation carpentry).
- Ability to read technical drawings, fabrication details, and site measurements.
- Good leadership, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Familiar with workshop machinery, carpentry tools, and safety regulations.
- Able to work independently and manage complete operations with minimal supervision.
- Willing to travel to Singapore for training or coordination when required.
Additional Expectations for Newly Set‑Up Company
- Help plan the workshop layout and workflow.
- Assist in recruiting carpenters and helpers.
- Develop SOPs for fabrication, installation, QC, and safety.
- Represent the company as the Person‑in‑Charge for authorities, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Build a strong workmanship culture and set performance standards aligned with DCSG Singapore.
