Status of Appointment: Permanent (Malaysian only)

Basic salary: between RM6,560.00 to RM15,360.00 (based on experience)

Location: Gombak, Malaysia

Scope

As an IT Lecturer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of the next generation of IT professionals. Your responsibilities span teaching, curriculum development, research, and community engagement, aiming to deliver an outstanding educational experience.

Candidate is a member of the staff of the Department of Information Technology (DIS) assigned by KICT and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and other obligations normally required of an academic staff member of IIUM.

Candidate should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to colleagues and students as part of duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

Candidate is required to attend any meetings related to administrative positions held, mandated by appointments made under IIUM under directives issued by the Rector, Dean, or Head of the Kulliyyah / Centre / Department / Institute / Office / Mahallah.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development: Design and update comprehensive CS courses that reflect the latest industry trends and academic standards.
  • Teaching Excellence: Deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and lab sessions across a variety of CS subjects, incorporating cutting‑edge technologies and software.
  • Student Assessment: Create and evaluate examinations, assignments, and projects to gauge student knowledge and skills, providing constructive feedback.
  • Research Contribution: Conduct and publish impactful research in the CS field and supervise student research projects and theses.
  • Professional Development: Remain current with technological advancements and pedagogical strategies through continued education and active participation in academic communities.
  • Community and Industry Engagement: Collaborate with industry experts to ensure curriculum relevance and foster opportunities for student placements.
  • Mentorship: Offer academic advice and personal mentorship to students, guiding them toward academic and professional success.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates must hold a Doctorate (PhD), Master’s, and Bachelor’s Degree in Computing from a recognised university.

Minimum Competencies

In higher education context, competencies typically encompass a blend of academic qualifications, teaching abilities, research skills, and personal attributes that enable effective education delivery, student engagement, and contributions to the academic community. Prior experience in teaching and research in the higher education sector is an added advantage.

Minimum Research and Publication

Expected minimum performance to be considered is as stated in the following table.

  • 1. Completed Research Grant as Principal Investigator (PI): Completed 40k as PI and accumulative 70k including ongoing research as Co‑Researcher.
  • 2. Publications as Main Author or Corresponding Author: a) 3 Indexed, b) 3 Non‑Indexed; with at least 3 papers as Main/Corresponding.
  • 3. Completed Student Supervision as Main Supervisor: 2 master students.
  • 4. Impactful Community Engagement/Service Contribution: At least 1 Contribution.
Other Requirements
  • Strong foundation and knowledge in computing.
  • Proficiency or specialization in any of the following areas is highly desirable: Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Information Retrieval, Business Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Computer Networking, Data Analytics, Data Mining, Data Science, Data Visualization, Digital Innovation, Embedded Systems, Enterprise System, Entrepreneurship, Information Security, Internet of Things, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, Web and Mobile Computing.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

A strong track record of published research and participation in the academic community is highly desirable.

Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained:

a. Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognised by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).

b. IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidates without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
