Post: Assistant Professor | Grade: DS13 | Status of Appointment: Contract | Basic salary: between RM6,210.00 to RM14,370.00 (depends on experience)

Scope

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and perform teaching, examining, research duties and other obligations normally required of an academic staff member of IIUM. The officer shall also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to colleagues and students and attend meetings of IIUM authorities, boards and committees. The officer is expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, and studio-based learning in Architecture and Built Environment related disciplines.
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students in research and design projects.
  • Providing leadership, guidance, and advisory role to undergraduate and postgraduate students in design studio projects, student competitions and visits.
  • Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
  • Setting questions, evaluating and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
  • Conducting high-quality research aligned with the department’s focus areas and publishing in high-impact journals.
  • Actively engaging in curriculum development, ensuring alignment with IIUM’s mission and Islamic values.
  • Participating in industry collaborations, consultancy projects, and community-based programmes.
  • Contributing to administrative tasks such as student advisement, committee work, and faculty meetings.
  • Supporting departmental initiatives, events, and accreditation processes.
  • Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside the institution.
  • Providing support to students and other colleagues.
  • Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Architecture or a related field in the Built Environment from a recognised local or international institution of higher learning.
  • Must have a professional Architecture qualification equivalent to LAM Part II and registered with Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM).
  • Professional qualification with LAM Part III is an advantage.
  • Membership in ILAM (Corporate, Associate, or Graduate Member) is preferred.
  • Teaching, lecturing and student supervision experience.
  • A strong design portfolio with added research publications in high-impact journals.
Other Requirements
  • Preferably a Malaysian citizen.
Language Qualifications
  • Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
  • IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidates without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
