Scope

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned, performing teaching, examining, and research duties, as well as other obligations required of an academic staff member of IIUM. The officer should also undertake moral and religious responsibilities toward colleagues and students as part of his duties.

The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM authorities, boards, and committees to which he may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM constitution or administrative actions of the Rector, Dean or Head of the Kulliyyah.

The officer is expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community, and to advise and guide students in character, behaviour, and moral conduct, acting as a teacher, scholar, and moral educator.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.
  • Developing curricula and course material for multiple platforms.
  • Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods.
  • Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
  • Conducting research, and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.
  • Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events inside and outside the institution.
  • Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.
  • Providing support to students and colleagues.
  • Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Linguistics / Applied Linguistics or any relevant field.
  • At least two publications in the field of Arabic for Specific Purposes, Linguistics, or Applied Linguistics.
  • Previous teaching experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to inspire students with passion.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work long hours.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to teach Phonology (علم الأصوات) is advantageous.

Other Requirements

All candidates must have obtained:

  • Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognized by the Malaysian Government (for Malaysian citizens).
  • IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidates without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
