Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Oversees the functions of Event Management, including Event Planning, Banquets/Catering, Event Service and Event Technology. The position implements brand service strategy and initiatives, executes all property events with seamless turnover from sales to operations and back, meets brand target customer needs, drives event revenues and maximizes department financial performance.
Candidate Profile
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED; 4 years experience in event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing or related area.
- 2‑year degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration or related major; 2 years experience in event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing or related area.
Core Work Activities
Managing Event Management Operations and Budgets
- Research and analyze new products, pricing and services of competition.
- Review scheduled events with direct reports and troubleshoot potential challenges.
- Ensure the property is apprised of all groups that will impact property operations.
- Work with culinary team to ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation standards.
- Oversee Event Operations including Banquets, Event Services and Event Technology.
- Oversee event planning team (BEO/Resume writers).
- Maintain meeting space and heart‑of‑the‑house areas, furniture and equipment in accordance to corporate guidelines.
- Lead execution of brand service initiatives in event management areas.
- Develop an Event Management strategy aligned with brand business strategy and lead its execution.
Leading Event Management Teams
- Set expectations and hold leadership team accountable for desired service behaviors.
- Communicate department goals to produce desired results.
- Identify key drivers of business success and keep team focused on critical few.
- Ensure integration of departmental goals in game plans.
- Implement brand and regional business initiatives and communicate follow‑up actions.
Managing Profitability
- Encourage calculated risk‑taking to generate incremental revenue and deliver excellent guest service.
- Work directly with major groups when high profile and financial impact are significant.
- Develop vendor relationships, set prices and service agreements to enhance event experience and increase revenue opportunities.
Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service
- Create an atmosphere in all event management operations that meets or exceeds guest expectations.
- Consult with customers to determine objectives and requirements for meetings, conferences and conventions.
- Review and respond to results of Event Satisfaction Survey.
Conducting Human Resources Activities
- Work with Human Resources to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Review property event operations annually and make appropriate adjustments.
- Review staffing levels to ensure guest service and operational needs are met.
- Communicate and ensure departmental and property emergency procedures are executed.
- Maintain regular, ongoing communication in all areas of event operations.
