Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced AS400 Engineer to manage, maintain, and enhance our IBM iSeries (AS400) systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of AS400-based applications while supporting business operations and IT initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in AS400 system administration, RPG programming, and database management. Additionally, they should be proactive in troubleshooting issues, optimizing system performance, and collaborating with internal teams and external vendors to drive continuous improvements.

Main Responsibilities
1. IT AS400 Application Maintenance and Enhancement

Involve in all stages of software development cycle (including maintenance and enhancement)

Develop, enhance, and troubleshoot custom AS400-based applications written in RPG, CL, or COBOL

Assist with data migration and conversion tasks related to AS400-based applications

Document procedures, system configurations, and troubleshooting steps

2. User Focus and Support Operations

Provide technical support for end-users and resolve technical issues in a timely manner

Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of AS400 systems with other enterprise applications

Support annual Business Continuity Exercise

3. IT AS400 Application Projects

Lead and coordinate all IT AS400 application projects to drive to completion

Requirements
Qualifications

A recognized Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant/ related qualification

2. Experience

At least 2-3 years of relevant working experience AS400 Engineer or similar role with strong knowledge of IBM iSeries systems

Proficiency in programming languages like RPG (ILE RPG, RPG IV), CL, COBOL, and SQL

Experience with AS400 system administration, including monitoring, backup, and troubleshooting

Familiarity with the AS400 operating system (IBM i) and related tools (e.g., DB2/400, TSO)

Good understanding of database management and optimization techniques for DB2/400

Knowledge of security practices and user access management within the AS400 system

Experience with newer versions of IBM iSeries/AS400

Familiarity with automation tools for AS400 system administration

Certification or training related to AS400 or IBM i platforms

Experience with AS400 interfacing with other platform

4. Personal Attributes
