A regional healthcare provider in the UK seeks a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a main interest in Obstetrics. This role involves joining a department of 11 consultants at Airedale General Hospital. Responsibilities include direct clinical duties and participation in healthcare improvement initiatives. Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Main interest Obstetrics) – an opportunity to pursue a specialist interest in preterm antenatal, obstetrics governance and maternal medicine at Airedale Hospital, situated between the Yorkshire Dales and the cosmopolitan centres of Bradford and Leeds.

This is a new post and the successful applicant will join a department of 11 consultants. Obstetric facilities are based at Airedale General Hospital and include inpatient and outpatient maternity services. Over 2,000 babies are delivered each year.
Antenatal services are predominantly provided within the maternity unit, with 61% of women booked as high‑risk and requiring consultant‑led care. A consultant will also lead the delivery of a planned midwife‑led pathway where complications arise during pregnancy.
The obstetrics and gynaecology workforce currently comprises 11 consultants and 1 associate specialist who provide essential patient‑led services. Airedale General Hospital works with other local NHS providers, including Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford District Care Trust, to promote a culture of safety and improvement.
Labour Ward with 8 delivery rooms: four in a midwifery‑led unit and four in the consultant‑led side. Dedicated obstetric theatre with a resident obstetric anaesthetist and consultant anaesthetist on call. Birth rate currently over 2,200 deliveries per annum.
Obstetric Ward: 15‑bed ward for antenatal and postnatal patients.
Antenatal Clinic: 2 consulting rooms, four examination rooms and ultrasound scanning facility.
Maternity Assessment Unit (MAC) open 6 days a week, adjacent to the Labour ward.
Special Care: 12 consultant paediatricians, intensive care cots, management from 26 weeks gestation. Links with Regional Cot Bureau.
