Planned & Preventative Maintenance
- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on a wide range of fixed and mobile plant equipment in accordance with the company’s periodic planned maintenance system.
- Complete maintenance inspection records accurately and in full, ensuring compliance with internal processes and regulatory standards.
- Undertake routine testing, calibration, and inspection of electrical systems and equipment to prevent breakdowns and optimise operational performance.
Reactive Maintenance & Fault-Finding
- Respond quickly and effectively to electrical breakdowns across the site to minimise downtime and disruption.
- Diagnose and rectify complex electrical faults using advanced troubleshooting techniques.
- Carry out reactive repairs on mobile plant including road vehicles, forklift trucks, mobile cranes, gantry cranes, cherry pickers, and scissor lifts.
- Repair, replace, or overhaul defective components in motors, generators, controllers, switchboards, wiring systems, and DC installations.
Installation & Project Support
- Install, modify, and commission electrical, electromechanical, and electronic equipment and machinery in line with relevant legislation and internal standards.
- Read, interpret, and work from electrical and electronic schematics, circuit diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Support engineering projects, upgrades, and improvement initiatives by providing technical input and completing associated electrical works.
Compliance, Safety & Documentation
- Ensure all electrical systems are maintained in compliance with current IET wiring regulations (17th / 18th Edition).
- Verify that all electrical work meets relevant safety standards and statutory requirements.
- Follow company procedures including Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), Permit-to-Work requirements, and Lockout / Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation including job sheets, electrical test results, and maintenance logs.
General Duties
- Work effectively as part of the Maintenance team, providing support, knowledge sharing and input into continuous improvement activities.
- Liaise with supervisors, production teams, and external contractors to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment in line with company standards and best practices.
- Actively participate in training, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of electrical fault-finding techniques and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working within a periodic planned maintenance environment, including inspection and documentation.
- Competence in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical / electrical components on a variety of mobile plant and lifting equipment.
- Experience working on DC systems and associated components.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and electronic circuit diagrams and schematics.
- Understanding of electrical legislation and safety protocols including RAMS, SSOW, permits, and LOTO.
- High Voltage awareness or experience with High Voltage switching
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (2357 or 5357) or BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or Level 4 / 5 HNC / HND in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (or similar)
- Time‑served electrician with proven industrial and / or maintenance experience.
- 17th or 18th Edition qualification.
