Job Purpose
Job Purpose – Champion HSE management on site and actively promote a developing safety culture within the site. Ensure HSE key performance indicators are integrated into site performance reporting and that HSE management systems remain current to ensure legal compliance. Act as the site’s expert resource on all HSE and employer liability claims issues. Drive year-on-year improvements in accidents, near misses, and employer liability claims performance; lead environmental initiatives and customer environmental initiatives. Support the delivery of the company audit programme and act as an auditor on other Business Unit sites where appropriate. Serve as the key site contact with HSE and other enforcing bodies and emergency services.

- Act as the primary site contact with HSE authorities and emergency services.
Accountabilities
- Provide advice and support to the site in planning, measuring, reviewing and auditing HSE activities to meet legal requirements and Company Policies and procedures.
- Keep up to date with new legislation and safety information to fulfill duties.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects while ensuring HSE requirements are met.
- Manage the HSE function and support staff to deliver objectives.
- Secure effective implementation of company, executive, and local health and safety policies, standards and procedures.
- Provide strategies to plan and organize work systems to reduce HSE risks and recommend adaptations to plant, machinery and processes.
- Plan and set realistic objectives, decide priorities and drive achievement within area of control.
- Maintain Employer’s Liability & other records to ensure confidentiality and GDPR compliance.
- Contribute to programmes to improve working practices through information, training and education.
- Provide management information and statistics related to the area of responsibility.
- Promote a positive HSE culture and implement/monitor incident investigation, reporting and analysis.
- Review and audit arrangements for HSE management and continuously improve them.
- Ensure robust reporting regimes for HSE statistics and KPIs to site management, the exec board and company management.
- Participate in group work as required and appropriate.
Communication
- Communication and teamwork – ensure effective communication within the team and with other factory teams in the appropriate manner.
- Update the senior leadership team on potential risks.
Systems
- Establish and maintain systems and procedures.
- Be confident in the use of PC systems.
- Coordinate site visits and receive/collate reports for management review.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to reviews of operational performance and help establish a company-wide improvement culture.
- Participate in team-wide culture of generating and implementing continuous improvement methods.
- Undertake additional duties commensurate with the level of responsibility within the site.

YOU
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2+ years Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing environment (food industry desirable)
- Chartered IOSH member, or working towards
- IEMA or similar environmental qualification
- Significant relevant operational experience – preferably within the food industry
- Leadership skills
- Good understanding of ISO 45001 HSE Management System requirements and experience integrating the system within businesses
- Experience of external audits by Regulators and other interested parties
- Experience of HSE audits, risk assessments and method statements
- Accident investigation and RIDDOR reporting experience
- Understanding of relevant HSE legislation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confident, assertive and diplomatic; able to influence senior management
- Maintains confidentiality
- Competent PC/IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Problem solving and analytical abilities; able to work under own initiative
- Excellent time management; able to prioritise workload and work under pressure
