Job summary

You would be working on a groundbreaking research project, The Generation Study which will sequence the genomes of 100,000 newborn babies. Every year hundreds of babies are born in the UK with rare genetic conditions, early intervention can enhance their health and quality of life. Main duties of the job

The post holder will work under the supervision of the Trust Research Matron as part of a team managing and coordinating the Generation Study within Obstetrics as a project manager. As project manager for the Generation Study the Research Midwife will maximise recruitment into the study by developing and coordinating recruitment strategies, monitoring rates of recruitment and ensuring that all aspects of the study are completed in line with research safeguards that are in place to protect the well-being of research participants and that research is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and in compliance to the respective research protocol and UK/EU law.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and sustaining their own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with the NMC Code.

As part of the co-ordination responsibilities the post holder will be expected to represent the Jessop Wing research team at national and international meetings, with particular emphasis on study development.

The Academic Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology (OG&N) is a research active Directorate with a large and growing portfolio of studies, a number of which are part of the NIHR portfolio.

The OG&N Research Team has successfully affiliated with the Sheffield NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF), the purpose of which is to grow and support research which is pertinent to the local population, taking part in research on the NIHR portfolio as well as supporting home grown grant bids.

The CRF has extensive experience in training and managing clinical and non-clinical research staff to ensure studies deliver to time and target. The CRF works with OG&N to ensure projects are supported by well-trained research staff who are who are well placed to develop and maintain strong working relationships with clinical staff. This ensures high quality, cost effective clinical care is provided to participants in studies.

Research Delivery staff can work across all sites within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife (with valid NMC registration)
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 e.g. ENB 997 or 998 and/or C&G 730 (or equivalent) or equivalent experience, e.g. Mentorship programme
  • Possess or be working towards a degree or equivalent in health/biological related subject
  • Possess or be working towards an MSc in Clinical Research or health/biological related subject. Or demonstrable significant experience working at an equivalent senior level.
  • Extensive evidence of continuous professional development Including post graduate qualifications and/ or academic research qualifications

  • Management qualifications or experience
  • New-born Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) qualification or working towards

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience with ability to demonstrate the requisite level of competencies at band 6
  • Experience of managing multiple competing projects to time and target, within research or other relevant field
  • Thorough understanding of contemporary midwifery issues
  • Experience of managing and delivering high quality patient care, promoting continuous improvements to service delivery

  • Experience of working in a clinical research environment

  • Practical Skills required; Phlebotomy, episiotomy, suturing and IV drugs and cannulation
