Our Chalk River location is looking for Research and Development (R&D) Technologists to support our Nuclear Safety Experiments department. • Leading the safe operation and maintenance of experimental facilities.
• Providing Project management support on estimating budgets and scheduling.
• Designing mechanical/electrical systems with CAD software.
• Building, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical/electrical systems.
• Using program data acquisition and control systems such as LabVIEW.
• Leading the development of advanced instrumentation technologies.
• Preparing procedures and documentation needed for experiments.
• Communicating with suppliers on the equipment needed for experiments.
• Providing Mentorship to junior staff.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.

• Education
  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position, such as electrical and mechanical engineering and normally has six (6) to eight (8) years of pertinent technological experience.
  • OR Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and normally has ten to twelve (10-12) pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
• Experience
  • Experience with process mechanical system operation and maintenance.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience with designing using AutoDesk Inventor.
  • Experience with programming using LabVIEW
  • Experience with the design process of mechanical/electrical systems and equipment.
  • Experience with the Process of mechanical/ electrical instrumentation
  • Experience with fabrication and assembly using hand and power tools.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and diagrams.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • General computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Good organizational skills and initiative.
  • Flexibility and adaptability with changing requirements.
  • Ability to work under tight schedules and budgets.
  • Ability to handle the physical aspects of a laboratory job.
  • Familiarity with TSSA regulations.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of nuclear reactor safety principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security".

• Laboratory environment with some hazardous conditions, including high current electrical power supplies, high-temperature fluids and surfaces, large quantities of refrigerant (Freon 134a), radiation sources, fissionable materials, hazardous chemicals, and work at elevated heights.
• Has access to personal protective equipment and to extensive training to understand the hazards.
• Will occasionally work overtime or irregular hours; travel is minimal.
• Normal frequency, intensity and duration of work that requires physical and sensory effort.
