We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead the financial operations of our client’s eight companies, based in Montreal’s West Island. Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Controller will oversee all financial activities, including the preparation of monthly financial statements for over 15 accounts. This pivotal role will manage a small team, including one Accounts Payable and one Accounts Receivable specialist, ensuring seamless coordination and accuracy across all financial processes. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in managing multiple companies simultaneously, delivering actionable insights to support the organization’s global distribution objectives.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the financial operations of eight distinct companies, ensuring compliance with Canadianspecifically Canadian accounting standards and regulations.
- Prepare and deliver accurate monthly financial statements for over 15 accounts, providing detailed analysis and insights to senior leadership.
- Supervise and mentor a team of two direct reports (Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable specialists), fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial strategies to support business growth.
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and financial performance across all eight companies, identifying opportunities for cost optimization and profitability.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and timely reporting.
- Streamline financial processes and leverage technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy in reporting.
- Provide strategic recommendations based on financial data to support decision-making in the distribution and logistics sectors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA designation is required.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 5 years in a Controller or similar role overseeing multiple companies.
- Proven track record of preparing financial statements and managing complex financial operations for organizations with $60M+ in revenue.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, tax regulations, and international financial reporting standards.
- Experience in the distribution, logistics, or import/export industry is highly desirable.
- Exceptional leadership skills with demonstrated experience managing small teams and cross-functional collaboration.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar) and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with ERP systems is an asset.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Compensation
