HIRING ROSTER for Registered Behavior Technicians

This posting will be used to establish a hiring roster to fill district-wide vacancies for Behavior Technician positions. Qualified candidates will be invited to interview with Special Education managers for hiring and placement for the 25-26 school year.

Assignment hours may vary by building, 9 months per year

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

We appreciate your interest in employment with Vancouver Public Schools (VPS). All applications are considered and reviewed. The most qualified and competitive applicant(s) that possess directly related experience and expertise, training, and education may be invited to participate in the interview/selection process. As part of the selection process, the District conducts confidential reference checks to include former and present employers and also requires a criminal background investigation. Unfortunately, due to the number of applications received, not all applicants will an interview.

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Special Services, the Registered Behavior Technician works under the direction and supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and in collaboration with the Special Education teacher. The RBT is responsible for the direct implementation individualized behavioral plans as developed by the IEP team, BCBA, or classroom teacher to support skill acquisition and teach replacement behaviors. The RBT will utilize the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to provide support to neurodiverse students, increasing student engagement and safety practices. The RBT may conduct assessments, and will collect individual behavior-specific data relating to the academic, social, and communication goals for each student.

Licensing Requirements
  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Completed a 40-hour training program (under a Board Certified Behavior Analyst certificate) based on the RBT Task List;
  • Pass the RBT Competency Assessment administered by a BCBA certificant;
  • Maintain RBT credential.
Essential Functions
  • Perform tasks assigned by the BCBA;
  • Assist teachers with implementation of classroom instruction and working with children during instructional activities;
  • Implement, assess, and evaluate implementation of student intervention plans and programs;
  • Exhibit the ability to develop relationships and communicate effectively with a diverse community and student population;
  • Engage in ongoing supervision for a minimum of 5% of hours spent engaging in student skills acquisition activities and behavior change strategies per month;
  • Communicate with staff, students, parents, and community about factors impacting student performance in a manner consistent with administrative direction as well as district policies and procedures;
  • Monthly supervision must include at least two face-face synchronous contacts per month during which the supervisor observes the RBT engaging in skill acquisition or behavioral change activities;
  • Measurement and data collection. Maintain accurate data on student performance/progress.
  • Implement positive behavioral intervention systems;
  • Focus on student skill acquisition;
  • Demonstrate competency in utilization of intervention and crisis response strategies;
  • Monitor children’s behavior inside and outside of the classroom;
  • Enter and update student information in applicable computer programs;
  • Perform routine mathematical calculations;
  • Read and interpret routine information from schedules, memos, and/or other written documentation;
  • Prepare simple memos, letters, and/or other related written correspondence.
  • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by administrator
Benefits/Compensation

Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts, may receive experience credit towards salary placement. Salary schedules can be accessed here.

Benefits: Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits. Detailed information, including further eligibility criteria, can be found here.

Retirement: Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE. Detailed information can be found here.

Time Off: Vancouver Public Schools offers paid holidays and paid time off, including but not limited to, sick, vacation, personal, and bereavement leave.

  • Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
  • Personal Leave: 3 days per school year
  • Twelve (12) month full-time Pro Tech employees are eligible to accrue ten (10) days vacation at one (1) - five (5) years of service. The accrual days are incrementally improved by five (5) days at the completion of five (5), eleven (11) and twenty (20) consecutive years of service respectively.
