Job Description:

Reports to the Nurse Manager or designate. The Registered Nurse - Perinatal plans and provides direct nursing care to obstetrical patients in the hospital, following the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and relevant obstetrical standards and guidelines from national, provincial, regional, and local authorities, including the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN.
• Graduate of a recognized Perinatal Nursing specialty program.
• Current CPR Basic Rescuer certification.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certificate.
• Fetal Health Surveillance Course Certificate.
• Breastfeeding Course Certificate.
• Two (2) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

• Apply the nursing process effectively in a well-organized manner for patient care, adhering to BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards of Nursing Practice.
• Demonstrate sound organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills.
• Exhibit good judgment, observation, and patient assessment skills.
• Maintain respectful workplace skills, including politeness, tact, and empathy.
• Prioritize and organize patient demands and care needs.
• Operate related medical equipment.
• Provide leadership during emergency situations.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Assume charge responsibilities as needed.
• Promote good public relations.
• Possess the physical ability to perform job duties.
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Remain calm and act appropriately in stressful and emergency situations.
