This opportunity is for a permanent position working 75 hours biweekly

The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board (WSCB) administers workplace health and safety and workers’ compensation in the territory. WSCB’s mission is to prevent work‑related injuries and illnesses in partnership with employers and workers and to support workers when injuries occur. We take care of injured workers by facilitating their stay at work, return to work and recovery.

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Workplace Health and Safety, the Manager, Occupational Hygiene Services is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating WSCB hygiene programs and services, under authority of the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Act. This position ensures compliance with safety management practices and addresses health effects caused by exposure to radiation, chemicals, physical agents (e.g. noise) and biological agents (e.g. bacteria).

The Manager, Occupational Hygiene Services provides information to various stakeholders on specific hazards related to work processes and materials and offers advice on how to minimize workplace exposures. Influences stakeholders to adopt effective strategies, education and training in health and safety practices, procedures and techniques and to ensure workplace exposures comply with legislation.

Essential Qualifications
  • Registered Occupational Hygienist, or Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • Experience interpreting, applying, and explaining the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Act (WSCA), and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations in an enforcement setting
  • Experience in analytical thinking and sound decision‑making, including the ability to investigate, determine root cause of incidents, and implement corrective actions that prevent recurrence
  • Significant experience conducting occupational hygiene assessments and inspections through the use of direct reading instruments (e.g. noise meters, light meters, etc.) in a wide variety of workplaces
  • Experience monitoring, sampling, and assessing exposure to physical, biological, and chemical agents, including asbestos-containing materials
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Hygiene would be considered an asset
