Well, let me tell you— we invest in culture, communities, deal with wildfire threats, and so much more. There really is too much to list in this short paragraph, so I will leave it to you to apply and hear more. Can't wait.

Talk soon.

Love From, Cabin

Salary: 50-70k (salary depends on how awesome and experienced you are), biannual profit share, RRSP contributions, training allowance, professional dues, signing and staying bonus, 5 weeks vacation, gear allowance, health and wellness account, relocation expenses, and access to company trucks.

Responsibilities:
  1. Leading the execution of multiple wildfire planning and operational projects throughout BC.
  2. Supervise and deliver the field and office work for Fuel Management Prescriptions, Community Wildfire Resiliency Plans, and Tactical Wildfire Plans.
  3. Conduct all work in accordance with the forestry and wildfire legal and regulatory regimes.
  4. Assist with business development, marketing, and proposal writing.
  5. Lead training of wildfire division staff.
  6. Lead the safe field and office operations.
What we are looking for:
  • Down-to-earth vibe and high level of self-awareness.
  • A willingness to bite off more than you can chew.
  • A healthy obsession with wildland fire.
  • 1-2 years planning at the site, sub-landscape, and landscape level in BC.
  • Registered with ABCFP or eligible for registration as RPF or FIT; RFT or TFT.
  • Experience with fuel management prescriptions, implementation, and supervision.
  • Experience with community wildfire protection planning (bonus if you have fire behaviour modeling experience)!
  • Adept with CFFDRS and Fire Behaviour Prediction System fuel types.
  • Understanding of wildfire funding regimes CRI, FESBC, and FireSmart / WRR.
  • Experience in wildfire prevention, especially controlled fire (considered an asset).

The above list is a collection of useful skills for our growing wildfire planning team, but we don't expect any candidate to check every box. In your cover letter, please highlight your favourite Spice Girl as well as what strengths you could bring to our team.

And now for why this job is so unique (if the compensation what not enough ;)

  • Good vibes around the office, young team, small, close-knit, connected, cohesive, experienced crews.
  • Kelowna and the surrounding areas are very cool places to live and work. You know the drill backcountry skiing (Monashees), resort skiing (Silverstar and Big White), mountain biking, and some pretty lakes.
  • Growth opportunities—there is no glass ceiling at Cabin, can't stress this enough. We meet biannually for performance reviews to ensure that everyone, including you, reaches their full potential.
  • Diversity of work opportunities—planning and operational supervision services to regional districts, municipalities, MoF, not-for-profits, and indigenous governments.
  • Stability—Cabin started in the Kootenays in 1996 and we are still going strong!
  • We have fun—the team is tight-knit, a cohesive, young, vibrant group that enjoys good times at work and after work, e.g., ski days, organized MTB rides, Volunteer efforts, and more!
  • We work safely, love what we do, and you will be mostly local.
  • Office dogs—lots of 'em, what more could you want?

Cabin is committed to LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace by creating a diverse and inclusive environment for everyone. We are also proud to support the rights and titles of First Nations and to be active partners in reconciliation in all our work.
