The Advisor is responsible for implementing the strategic direction of health, safety, and well-being at work. As an expert, the incumbent is the reference in Canada for all questions relating to health and safety, policies, programs, and procedures, and ensures that Cogeco complies with health and safety laws, regulations, and standards.
Act as a specialist in the interpretation and application of health and safety laws, policies, processes, and standards in force in Canada.
Recommend strategies to maintain consistency between Ontario and Quebec in terms of applicable policies, standards, and annual objectives/priorities.
Serve as a catalyst and expert to promote and maintain a positive prevention culture within the organization.
Support managers regarding the deployment and monitoring of prevention programs and activities.
Complete monthly reports tracking the organization’s health, safety, and well-being performance.
Develop appropriate communications on health, safety, and well-being at work, as needed.
Identification of dangerous conditions and practices, including risk assessment and development of recommendations.
In partnership with the external provider, manage CNESST/WSIB claims.
Support managers and health and safety representatives in accident investigations to ensure adequate identification of root causes and application of preventive measures.
Coordinate training and various activities related to health, safety, and well-being.
Review trends and analyze health, safety, and well-being data to create targeted action plans.
Engagement with various regional offices through regular visits and health, safety, and well-being audits.
Optimize the self-management processes of local health, safety, and well-being committees.
Assist with the implementation and monitoring of health, safety, and well-being plans, policies, and procedures.
As part of their employment, employees must take all necessary measures to ensure their health and safety as well as those of their colleagues and the general public. At all times, they must wear available personal protective equipment and comply with health and safety policies, procedures, directives, and instructions issued by Cogeco.
The incumbent must always keep in mind that the execution of their work supports Cogeco’s ultimate goal of providing excellent service to its current and potential customers, including its internal customers.
Assist, as needed, in responding to requests from other functional units and participate in special projects or perform other tasks, as required.
ACADEMIC TRAINING
University degree in health and safety, or other related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
WORK EXPERIENCE
5 to 8 years of experience in a health, safety, and well-being role.
Experience in a unionized workplace would be an asset.
Holding the CRHA/HRPA or safety professional designation title is a significant asset.
SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Bilingualism (English and French), both oral and written.
Excellent communication and influencing skills.
Demonstrated autonomy, ability to take initiative and solve problems independently.
Capable of being detail-oriented while demonstrating the ability to analyze and identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Interpersonal skills with a positive and professional attitude towards customer service.
Open to change with a willingness to learn and a positive attitude towards work and contribution to teams.
Knowledge of Agile concepts is an asset.
Knowledge of the Google for Business suite is an asset.
Valid driver’s license.
