Join Array to make a mark on our business and grow your career.

Who we need

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, we are looking for a Senior Engineering Designer to join our team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to apply your versatile design knowledge to challenge the status quo, develop innovative concepts to meet client needs, and collaborate with peers to build grounded engineering solutions. You will play a lead role, working with a cross-functional team to understand our customers’ needs and translate them into innovative retail display solutions. Leveraging a supplied design intent or product assortment, you will take the idea from concept to a cost-effective, sustainable, and manufacturable solution for the production floor.

This is a full-time, hybrid role, working 4 days per week at our manufacturing headquarters and one day remotely.

Who you are

You have expertise in developing products that can be manufactured effectively. You are intellectually curious and take a knowledge-sharing approach. You are curious and driven to expand your insights and your skills, keeping up with trends in design and sustainability. With deep 3D design experience, you excel at generating value-add ideas and defining product specifications (materials, finishes, processes, fit, functionality, aesthetics).

What’s in it for you

Influence.

This is a highly visible technical role in which your expertise will directly influence design-for-cost and manufacturability decisions throughout the product lifecycle. You will shape engineering solutions that balance performance, quality, and cost, enabling scalable manufacturing and global execution.

Impact.

You will drive the adoption of engineering standards, processes, and best practices that improve consistency and efficiency. Working cross-functionally with engineering, operations, supply chain, and manufacturing partners, you will solve complex technical challenges and influence outcomes that support both day-to-day performance and long-term growth.

Career growth.

This is a chance to expand your skills by providing technical mentorship and contributing to decisions that shape future products and platforms. As the business scales, you will take on increasingly complex challenges across programs and regions, building a clear pathway toward principal-level impact—where success is defined by the strength of your solutions, the standards you establish, and the trust you earn across the organization.

As our new Senior Engineering Designer, you will:
  • Gain insights. You will receive concepts and work directly with clients, retailers, and internal teams to better understand the brand, consumer behaviour, and the specific design request. You will consult with team members to establish and evaluate assignment requests and deliverables at the initial briefing.
  • Create technical plans. You will translate client input into clear engineering direction by assessing design intent, specifying suitable materials and manufacturing processes, and producing production-ready engineering drawings. You will apply your extensive experience in sheet metal and injection moulding to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective. You will present design development proposals (planogram drawings / build intent drawings) and work with the client and internal teams toward next-step solutions.
  • Collaborate. You will be part of bid teams, making presentations and representing Array at client meetings. You will work closely with cross-functional project teams during a collaborative huddle, including the creative/industrial design team, to translate concepts into grounded, producible designs.
  • Innovate. You will focus on the sustainability of both materials and manufacturing methods, and on innovation, prioritizing design for sustainability, value, manufacturing principles, retail principles, and product end-of-life. You will actively apply lessons learned from past projects to improve design outcomes and avoid repeating mistakes.
  • Integrate life cycle analysis (LCA). You will bring an engineering mindset to providing end-of-life solutions, including separating display components into their constituent materials for recycling, repurposing components to extend their life in the retail environment, and raising awareness of safe disposal methods and streams.
  • Design. You will work with subject matter experts (SME) and team members to evaluate the feasibility of concepts by considering practicality, aesthetics, budget, production cost/methods, and brand characteristics. You will create innovative development solutions that are on-brand, functional, sustainable, cost-effective, and manufacturable. You will develop a planogram or value-engineered drawings, leveraging 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD to model parts and assemblies. You will develop an accurate bill of materials (BOM) to include all necessary components for projects.
  • Optimize. You will create technical drawings for use in prototyping and production. You will evaluate and adjust development files to improve design for manufacture (DFM) during the prototype phase. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment where product development timelines are measured in weeks rather than months, requiring rapid iteration and decision-making. You will identify appropriate and cost-effective materials and processes.
  • Ensure quality and durability. You will align the format and quality of deliverables with the Array standards. You will work with vendors to understand process capabilities, perform a stack-up analysis, and set appropriate tolerances on detail drawings. You will perform strength tests and structural analysis in SolidWorks and available plug-in applications. You will ensure all safety regulations and compliance standards are met.
  • Act as a leader. You will train new members and mentor fellow team members by providing project guidance and support with day-to-day tasks and functions. You will stay abreast of industry, market, and material trends through publications, trade shows, seminars, or conferences. You will share modern, trending ideas and approaches with the team. You will recommend and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines. You will perform all work duties as per the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations (OSHA), the health, safety & environmental policies, procedures, and policies of Array Canada. You will report any Health and Safety issues to the supervisor immediately.
You have:
  • The education and experience. You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. You have extensive professional experience in POP/Retail Design or related fields, with a proven track record of taking design concepts to fully manufacturable solutions. You have a broad understanding of product development, retail environments, brand marketing, and manufacturing processes. You are experienced in working with finalized design concepts where adjustments are no longer possible, requiring precision, foresight, and excellent judgment.
  • The technical expertise. You are highly proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), CNC programming, and MS Office. You have extensive experience with sheet metal and injection moulding processes, and can apply this knowledge to ensure manufacturable, cost-effective designs. You can read and interpret documents such as design briefs, safety rules, and procedure manuals, and write routine reports and correspondence.
  • The collaboration and communication. You communicate design and technical concepts clearly and professionally across teams and levels. You take a collaborative, knowledge-sharing approach to innovation and continuous improvement. You excel at building strong relationships with cross-functional teams, including designers, operations, and clients, to ensure project success.
  • The engineering skills. You have good judgment, an emphasis on precision, and strong reasoning skills to identify alternative solutions. You have exceptional attention to detail and time management. You thrive in fast-paced environments where product development timelines are measured in weeks rather than months, and you can confidently navigate change while delivering high-quality results on time.
  • The ownership and leadership. You can lead and guide the work of others and influence decision-makers. You prioritize meeting client needs, adapting to changing demands, and balancing competing deadlines. You are intellectually curious, driven to expand your skills, and committed to continuous improvement.
What you can expect from the interview process
  • A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor discussing your interest in the role. The conversation will be recorded using BrightHire, an AI-powered video interview tool. More details will be shared when you are invited to interview.
  • A virtual interview with the Engineering Manager. You will have a chance to share your technical experience, design engineering management, and process improvement.
  • A final in-person interview with the Director of Engineering and a representative from our Human Resources team to learn more about the goals of the team and the company. This includes a site tour.
