Head Accountant jobs in Canada

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Senior Accountant to lead our accounting operations and team. The role includes overseeing AR/AP, ensuring accurate bookkeeping, managing financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with VAT and Corporate Income Tax regulations. The ideal candidate will also lead the accounts team, standardize workflows, and follow up with clients for receivables to maintain healthy cash flow.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate bookkeeping as per accounting standards.
• Manage Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP), ensuring timely collections and payments.
• Regularly follow up with clients to ensure timely collection of outstanding receivables.
• Prepare and finalize monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Perform bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger oversight.
• Ensure compliance with UAE VAT and Corporate Income Tax laws, including timely filings.
• Develop and standardize accounting systems, protocols, and workflows.
• Lead and supervise the accounts team, ensuring task allocation, performance tracking, and team development.
• Support financial planning and analysis (FP&A) including budgeting and variance reporting.
• Coordinate with auditors and ensure documentation is audit-ready.
• Monitor cash flow, manage post-dated cheques, and maintain financial records.

Desired Candidate Profile:

• Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance; CA, CPA, or CMA preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in engineering, construction, or surveying sectors.
• Proven experience in managing AR/AP, client follow-ups, and cash flow monitoring.
• Strong understanding of UAE VAT and Corporate Tax regulations.
• Proficient in Tally and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience leading a team and improving accounting processes and systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
