Fleet Controller

We are seeking to employ a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Controller.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Fleet Controller based in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni.

This position reports directly to the Fleet Manager.

The successful candidate will ensure the efficient and smooth running of the fleet operations. The candidate will provide adequate support through planning and implementing an effective internal control system pertaining to Fleet management, following all procedures and processes as per company policies as well as those of the Fleet Manager. The person will be required to deal with complexity in a fast-paced environment.

Needs to be a self-starter with attention to detail and bring a positive energy to the work environment, with a willingness to excel in their role.

This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to ensure compliance with company policies and regulations, as well as legislative requirements.

1. Asset Management: Manage and oversee the fleet assets within the Company ensuring optimal utilization and fuel efficiency. Monitor and report on daily diesel consumption, taking corrective actions for unacceptable levels. Monitor and report on driver behavior, utilizing the fleet telematics systems in place, and take necessary action to address incorrect behavior on a regional level.
2. Vehicle Oversight: Ensure all vehicles under your control are within service limits and legally licensed, by equipping teams with the appropriate reporting and tools. Report breakdowns to the manager and address new damages or defects promptly. Develop and maintain schedules for vehicle maintenance, inspections, and deliveries. Ensure the fleet image is kept at a high standard and reflective of our proud brand.
3. Administrative and Documentation: Attend to general administration and documentation management on a daily basis. Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, maintenance, services, compliance documentation, etc.
4. Fuel Management: Monitor and manage fuel consumption to control costs and reduce environmental impact. Implement systems to track fuel cards and optimize fuel efficiency.
5. Compliance and Regulations: Stay informed about and ensure compliance with national and local transportation regulations. Conduct accident / incident investigations and submit required documentation. Liaise with insurance companies for cover, incidents, etc.
6. Cost Management: Support, develop, and manage budgets related to fleet operations, including maintenance, fuel, and vehicle acquisition costs. Identify opportunities for cost savings and implement strategies to reduce operational expenses. Manage and monitor Fleet systems to maximize control and reduce vehicle accidents and repair costs. Implement and manage fleet tracking systems to monitor vehicle locations, performance, and driver behavior. Utilize telematics technology to gather data on vehicle usage, driver behavior, and maintenance needs. Liaise with tracking companies on any issues and management of vehicles.
7. Safety and Risk Management: Implement safety programs and policies to ensure driver well-being and reduce the risk of accidents. Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with fleet operations.
8. Communication and Collaboration: Communicate with teams, General Manager's office team, suppliers, finance, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations. Collaborate with other departments, such as finance and security, to optimize organizational efficiency. Travel to various company locations to offer support to the teams and assist with overall fleet management improvement.
9. Emergency Response: Develop and implement plans for responding to emergencies or accidents involving fleet vehicles. Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess fleet operations' efficiency and effectiveness. Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging technologies for continuous improvement.

1. A minimum of 5 years' experience in controlling a large fleet complement.
2. Vehicle stock control knowledge.
3. Degree / Diploma in Supply Chain Management or relevant tertiary qualification in logistics.
4. Demonstrated analytical ability.
5. Ability to show initiative.
6. Team player with self-motivation and reliability.
7. Highly organized.
8. Strong English reading and writing skills as well as bilingualism will be essential.
9. Valid code 8 driver's license.
10. Good interpersonal, leadership, motivation planning, and communication (verbal & written) skills.
11. Ability to thrive in a dynamic and demanding work environment.
12. In-depth understanding of transportation laws and compliance.
13. Detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to safety standards.
14. Integrated Transport management systems, working knowledge.
15. Intermediate to advanced computer literacy – Microsoft Office tools: Outlook, Word, Excel.
16. Proven experience in the logistics industry.
17. Previous experience interacting with technical teams.
18. Good mechanical aptitude and technical knowledge.
