Job Title: Staff Accountant / Controller-Lite

Location: Remote (South Africa preferred)

Compensation: $2,000 - $3,000 USD/month (potential flexibility up to $3,500 for higher-level skillset)

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Accountant / Controller-Lite to provide financial oversight and operational support within a growing international team. This role bridges the gap between bookkeeping and executive leadership, ensuring accurate reporting, streamlined processes, and reliable financial oversight.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment. You'll be responsible for reviewing the work of a bookkeeper, preparing reports, and ensuring the shareholder/executive team receives accurate and timely financial insights without needing to manage day-to-day accounting tasks.

• Oversee and review the work of the bookkeeper to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial reports.
• Consolidate financial data into clear, actionable reporting packages for leadership.
• Act as the operational link between bookkeeping and executive oversight.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies, improving accounting workflows where necessary.
• Ensure timely reporting of cash flow, P&L, and balance sheet.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities as needed.
• Provide recommendations to strengthen financial processes and controls.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally in an international or remote environment.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Experience managing or reviewing bookkeeping-level work.
• Proficiency in accounting software and cloud-based tools.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

• Experience in a controller or staff accountant capacity for SMEs or startups.
• Background in operations management alongside finance/accounting.
• Familiarity with remote team structures and cross-border financial reporting.
