Accountant / Bookkeeper
Job summary
A reputable accounting firm in East London is seeking an experienced Accountant / Bookkeeper. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in an accounting environment, proficiency in Sage and Pastel software, and a solid understanding of bookkeeping up to trial balance. Responsibilities include maintaining financial records, preparing trial balances, and managing payroll submissions. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and dynamic team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience within an Accounting Firm environment.
- Solid understanding of bookkeeping up to trial balance.
- Experience with SARS verifications, audits, and statutory submissions.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records and general ledgers.
- Prepare trial balance and assist with monthly reconciliations.
- Manage payroll-related submissions and statutory returns.

- Proficient in Sage and Pastel Accounting software / Caseware
- Solid understanding of bookkeeping up to trial balance
- Experience with SARS verifications, audits, and statutory submissions (IRP5s, EMP201)
- Competent in preparing bi-monthly and quarterly financial and management accounts
- Maintain accurate financial records and general ledgers
- Prepare trial balance and assist with monthly reconciliations
- Manage payroll-related submissions and statutory returns
- Support with financial reporting, management accounts, and audit preparations
- Liaise with clients and SARS where required
