Job summary
A recruitment agency is seeking a Financial Accountant in Durban, South Africa. The role involves preparing financial reports and managing accounting entries in compliance with reporting timelines. Ideal candidates will have a B.Com Accounting degree, 4-6 years of relevant experience, and strong analytical skills. Proficiency in MS Office and a thorough understanding of financial regulations are essential.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 to 6 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Experience in Insurance or Financial services is key.
- Thorough understanding of IFRS, VAT and Income Tax.
Responsibilities
- Process accounting entries and prepare monthly management accounts.
- Prepare monthly petty cash, bank and GL reconciliations.
- Prepare commentary on financial results for Management.
- Reconcile intercompany balances and prepare confirmations.
- Compile documentation for audits.
- Support implementation of internal controls.
- Assist in the implementation of the ERP system.

- B. Com Accounting or related qualification
- Completed Articles
- Minimum of 4 to 6 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Experience in Insurance or Financial services is key.
- Thorough understanding of IFRS, VAT and Income Tax
- Strong analytical skills
- Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
- MS Office with solid Excel skills (intermediate)
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage changing priorities and competing demands
- Process accounting entries and prepare monthly management accounts in compliance with Group reporting timelines.
- Prepare monthly petty cash, bank and GL reconciliations.
- Prepare commentary on the financial results to provide insights to Management.
- Reconcile intercompany balances and prepare related confirmations.
- Compile supporting documentation and schedules required for external and internal audits.
- Support the implementation of internal controls, report financial discrepancies and errors.
- Assist in the implementation of the ERP system.
