We are seeking a visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead a prominent and fast growing NGO dedicated to building future-fit, inclusive societies through technology and innovation advancing sustainable development and social justice in South Africa and across the African continent. The CEO will oversee overall operations, lead the organisation’s Pan-African expansion, ensure efficient management and seamless group coordination, and drive strong fundraising strategies.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Management
• Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the organization, ensuring alignment with its mission and values.
• Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans to achieve the organization's long-term goals and objectives, including expansion into new markets.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the organization.
• Represent the organization at national and international forums, enhancing its visibility and influence, stakeholder engagement, and thought leadership
• Lead the executive management team, ensuring a high-performance leadership culture, and provide guidance and mentorship to foster their professional growth
• Drive innovation and identify emerging opportunities in high-growth sectors.
Operational Management
• Ensure alignment of all business units with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
• Oversee day-to-day operations and data management, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of programs and services.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards governing the NPO sector.
• Implement robust systems for monitoring and evaluating the impact of the organisation's work.
• Develop and implement operational policies, systems, and best practices.
• Ensure efficiency and effectiveness in financial, HR, and technology operations.
• Oversee governance, compliance, and risk management, ensuring ultimate accountability for governance within the South African operations.
• Lead the organisation’s technology innovation strategy, ensuring alignment with global digital transformation trends and fostering a culture of tech-driven innovation.
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress.
• Oversee the execution of the organisation’s strategic initiatives across all business units.
• Maintain accountability to the Board of Directors and report on progress.
Financial Management and Funding
• Develop and manage the organization's budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.
• Oversee fundraising initiatives and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and partners (general and project funding)
• Secure funding and strategic investments to ensure financial sustainability.
• Ensure financial transparency and accountability through regular audits and reporting.
• Identify new revenue streams to support the organization's programs and sustainability.
• Commercial sustainability and viability: Oversee financial sustainability by ensuring that programmes, units, and activities are not only well-funded but also operate efficiently, generating surpluses where possible and adhering to best operational and financial practices.
• Drive risk management, governance, and compliance across the organization
• Ensure the commercial sustainability of operational activities, driving efficiencies, best practices, and sustainable financial models.
• Impact measurement and accountability: Ensure the organisation tracks and reports against specific impact metrics including reach, quality, sector impact, and social transformation, to measure progress towards the organisation’s long-term goals.
• Lead operational resource planning and ensure alignment with financial constraints.
• Foster collaboration across departments to enhance organizational efficiency.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, and community groups.
• Advocate for policies and initiatives that advance the organization's mission and goals.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for partnerships and joint ventures.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external audiences through various channels.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international development, public administration, or business management; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in the NGO sector or related fields.
• Proven track record of successful strategic planning and execution.
• Strong financial acumen and experience in managing budgets and fundraising activities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in private and public sector.
• Commitment to social justice, equity, and sustainable development.
• Experience leading a staff compliment of at least 100 people
• Entrepreneurial background critical.
• Demonstrated fundraising success.
• Ability to structure a deal with multiple funders and structure the deal for the best outcome
• Ability to present at decision maker level with a “story that lands and resonates”
• Proven track record of having designed solutions to meet the clients’ needs
• Understanding of financial modelling
