Job description
Overview

Senior Will Writer (UK) – GOTO Group is a successful privately owned property technology company providing multitude of services for the client on their moving home journey. We are launching a new Wills & Estate Planning function within GOTO Group SA, and this role will be key in building the team from the ground up. As a Will Writer within GOTO Group SA, you will be responsible for drafting high-quality wills and supporting clients with clear, accurate, and professional estate planning advice. While experience in UK wills is not essential, you should have a solid background in will writing, fiduciary, or estate planning work, with the ability and willingness to upskill through accredited UK training. This is a mid-senior role, requiring technical expertise, client-handling confidence, and the capacity to mentor junior colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Draft wills to a high standard, ensuring compliance with relevant legal frameworks (training will be provided for UK-specific requirements).

  • Conduct structured client fact-finds to identify estate planning needs, risks, and family circumstances.

  • Ensure wills are clear, unambiguous, and free from errors that could create disputes.

  • Provide guidance to clients on executorship, guardianship, and beneficiary structures.

  • Liaise with UK partners, legal teams, and compliance staff to ensure accuracy and risk management.

  • Keep accurate records of all drafting, instructions, and client communications in line with GDPR and internal compliance requirements.

  • Stay up to date with changes in UK wills, probate, and succession law, applying CPD learning in practice.

  • Mentor and support junior will writers, sharing technical knowledge and reviewing drafts for quality.

  • Meet service KPIs including drafting turnaround time, quality assurance standards, and client satisfaction metrics.

Key Skills

  • 5-8 years’ experience in will drafting, fiduciary services, or estate planning.

  • Strong understanding of will-writing formalities and drafting principles in a common law context.

  • Excellent written English and attention to detail for precise legal drafting.

  • Proven ability to handle multiple client cases accurately and efficiently.

  • Strong client communication skills with the ability to explain legal concepts simply.

  • Ability to work within a compliance-driven, process-oriented environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to UK will writing and succession law (Wills Act 1837, Inheritance Act 1975).

  • Membership of a professional body such as SWW, IPW, or STEP, or willingness to work towards this.

  • STEP Certificate/Diploma in Will Preparation (or in progress).

  • Experience with inheritance tax, trusts, or cross-border estates.

  • Familiarity with GDPR, POPIA, and international data protection.

  • Experience mentoring or coaching junior colleagues.

Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience, starting from R25,000 basic + potential performance bonuses + transport allowance + post-probation benefits.
